I will let Candyce tell you all about her book.....

she was gracious enough ( and proudly so ) to show it to me, carefully unwrapping it out of it's protective covering, laying it at my feet at the 'Gathering on the Green' Concours at the Osthof, and paging thru the photos.

    Simply breathtaking !

I must say, you have to sell us some of these books Candyce. You certainly outdid yourself once again in the presentation of 'Sepia' to the world......

It Always Comes Back to the People

Last summer, a picture book project was begun on the Sepia 911. This little project turned into a major undertaking. Like many things with this car, it just evolved. Originally, two of the books were to be covered in brown leather to match the car. But that was an extravagance, and just too expensive. The second to last step, was to have a calligrapher write an inscription. Two weeks ago, I found Julie in the town I live in. Terrific! With the book open on her kitchen counter, I explained the pictures and the story. Both Julie and her husband were genuinely interested in this project.

As we were talking, Julie asked, "Did you ever think of covering the books in brown leather?"Quizzically, I asked, "Why do you ask?" Well, it turns out Julie works with the same Chicago bookbinder that had given the quote for the leather. I thought, "Damn, you're screwed." With a coincidence like that, you just have to go with it!

Of course, Julie is doing the calligraphy work and two of the books will be covered in brown leather.

Still to be done is to "scrapbook" some photographs of Jim and his Porsches into the book.

The sepia Porsche is oh so special. But, the people are more so! There would be no "coffee table book" without the people who showed me the way.

Happy New Year Mike! Her name is Bari Zaki and she has a studio on North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago. She is very much an artist and hand binds books. Julie the calligrapher does all her calligraphy work. They both teach at the studio. Her father was a bookbinder. Interesting lady, interesting story. It was quite a coincidence that I would run into Julie.

Two Pockets Full of Porsche Matchbox Cars

First thing this morning at work, a fourth grader called out to me,
"Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones do you really own a Porsche?" "Yes, Gabe, I do."
Then I told him about the sepia 911 and promised to show him some photographs.

Later on, we huddled in the corner of his classroom looking at pictures of the 911.
Gabe was very excited and wanted to know all about the car.
As we talked, it became clear that he knew much about Porsches, even how to pronounce the name.

Then Gabe reached into his pockets, and shared his treasures with me ...
Two handfuls of Matchbox Cars ... all Porsches.
He laid them out on the counter by number.
It was my turn to be impressed!

I failed his quiz on the models and the numbers.
The numbers of the later cars are a mystery to me.

    It made my day!

Hi Candyce, Gabe sounds like a good candidate to register for the PCA Junior Program. https://web.pca.org/index.cfm?event=...FVeUOYsTQJM%3D

Thank you, Chuck. It was so much fun chatting with Gabe about Porsches and playing with his Matchbox cars. Just love it when these little vignettes pop up ... I just smile.
