    Bryce,

Yes!!! That is a neat little trick. It is already bookmarked and I will soon be playing around with it. Adding a title with a key word to my posts is now a goal.

Thank you for creating the link, way cool,

    A ppi

Needing information on the mechanical condition of the car, a PPI (post purchase inspection) was completed by Precision Porsche Service, Spring Grove, WI. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the inspection, the details and information in the report, the quality of the work, and the professionalism of the owner. He spent over two hours explaining everything to me and answering my questions. I didn’t understand everything but it was a valuable experience. It provided a roadmap for the future.

The most interesting part of the conversation was the difference between taking a car in to have one item repaired vs. having a car inspected or looked at regularly. As problems cropped up on the S, they were fixed ... cracked fuel line, a fuel pump, etc. Not knowing what to expect next scared me. A breakdown on the road was a worry. Now, I am much more confident driving this 911. The knowledge I gained is so powerful.

To plan for expenses, I needed to know what needs to be done to maintain the car. There is a special account earmarked Porsche repairs. Like many here, I sell things to defray car expenses. Jim had a Cannon EOS 1N film camera with lots of big, heavy lenses. For many years, I lugged them around Road America. The lenses were sold for “big bucks” and have paid for most of the work on the car.

Overall the car is in excellent condition, including the engine ... a big sigh of relief. Some brake work was completed, some oil lines and seals were replaced, the alternator and the pedal assembly were rebuilt. Other minor things can be put off for now.

Much to my embarrassment, I am guilty of overfilling the oil. The oil was checked every time I gassed up. That always brought on watchers. The oil was always filled to the maximum line. No wonder the oil lines and seals leaked. Ouch! So I am thankful things are okay. And, I learned how to read the dipstick.

Next spring some of the other things on the list will be done. I’ll just chip away at it.

The PPI was the best money I ever spent on the S,

Just to correct, Precision Porsche Service, Spring Grove, IL. and that would be Larry Marzano. He was at Traverse City last year and did a PPI for me on my '71 Targa very knowledgeable and detail oriented. See attached invoice for some work he did for me.

Also came with a memory stick with before and after photos of the parts replaced and work done!!

That's very impressive Mike and I'd love to have that labor rate in California.

    Candyce,

Great to hear you went to Larry for the inspection and work on Sepia. He is a very good friend so I am terribly biased, but he is an amazing mechanic in so many ways. Thanks to both you and Mike for sharing your experiences. You won't go anywhere else now will you.

Rate is now $85 and he is very hard to schedule in work. He is only one person, so I have an emergency backup now just in case.

I've a 2.4S and I also race a 911. In my experience there are ten times more overfilled 911's than underfilled ones.

That doesn't even change with the modern P cars. My Cayman S has an electronic dipstick. It's easy to overfill.

It is comforting to know, I am not alone. I try to be so careful with the car and it makes me so mad when I do something wrong. The 911S is very forgiving of my mistakes.
