    Ault Park, Cincinnati

This weekend the car will be shown at Ault Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. It will be fun to compete and talk with the spectators. I like staying at B&Bs. As I was looking in Cincy, I described my needs ... off street parking, water, and a hose.

One man asked, "What kind of car do you have?"
    "Oh a 1973 Porsche 911S."
"You can store your car in my garage."
    "You have a deal."

His garage is gigantic with a large pad. it doesn't get much better. His response made the weekend. I have met so many kind people through the S including the members of the Early 911S Registry.

Best Story from Ault Park Concours

A mother was showing her daughter the open trunk of the 911 ...

"Sweetie look, no engine. Where is the engine?"

"Mommy, what kind of car is it?"

"The engine is in the back of the car, it is a Chevy Corvair."

Shaking my head, I said, "No, it's a Porsche."

    She didn't believe me.

"Nope, it is a Chevy. They made the only rear engine car."

    That's when I gave up.

    Ault Park Surprises

Saturday, a driving tour was planned to Augusta, KY. Arriving at 11:00, I followed directions and parked in the first open spot.
One of the men in charge of something came up and asked me to bring the 911 to the local airport to display it. Opportunities like that can’t be turned down. The S was on the tarmac at Lunken Airport along with some very nice automobiles and airplanes for the dinner that evening. That the car was on display at an airport was just an amazing experience ... Jim was a private pilot. We spent a lot of time at airports.

As cars lined up for the tour, everyone was strolling about looking at the cars. The Ingrams and their mechanic were looking at Sepia. They were all looking at the fuses and screws. They were discussing which screws had been turned or not turned since the engine was built. True Porsche car guys! Members of this registry contact me and ask me to photograph such and such screws all the time.

The S was in a class titled, Sports Classics. After the judging was completed, the judges came up to me and said I was being bumped into another class ... Preservation. Well, Preservation at the show included all the "Hollywood" touring cars and roadsters from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. No way could the youngster, Sepia, compete against those grand old ladies ... maybe someday. The judges acknowledged Sepia with an Award of Distinction. It started to drizzle and it was time to pack up. Before leaving, just as the show was ending, a volunteer handed me a card with the number 46 and said, “Go get in line.” The ’73 S had won an award ... didn’t know which one. I waited my turn, drove up to the tent, and carefully listened to the announcer. The 911 won the Chairmen’s Choice Award. Wow! I was really surprised. What an honor!

This car continues to amaze me. She leads me down so many different roads.

By the way, the drive was on Kentucky 8, an endless, curvy, hilly road with no stops. My kind of driving.

Congtaulations...again! You will need a new house for all the trophies soon

Have you ever lost points for not having the shell decal on your air filter housing?

    Shell Sticker

Thank you, the show was fun, met a lot of nice people.

Points were never deducted for the lack of the Shell sticker. I didn't know that it was suppose to be there. There have been problems with ordering/purchasing air filters. The last time, I showed the parts man at the local Porsche dealership pictures of the engine, and he still ordered the wrong part ... received two square filters rather than the round filters. The dealerships just don't know the old parts. If they ask me a questions about what I need, I can't reply. I don't have the technical words to describe the parts.

    Candyce,

If you ever do put a Shell sticker on the air filter housing, because of your later built '73, you should put on the later 'white' horizontal format sticker. Unfortunately not the orange 'squarish' sticker our club sales...
They started using these newer stickers around Jan/Feb. '73.

I have a later build '73 as well.......

Here's pics of my original sticker, and it's replacement...
I believe you might still get these through the dealers, and I believe they were used from late '73 through '83...

    Hope this helps......

I think you can see on the mid/front RHS the outline or remnants of glue (whiteish colour) where the sticker used to be.

If you look closely you may see the outline

    Shell Sticker

Thank you Boyer and Chuck for the information and the photographs. If I don't see a picture, I don't know what I am looking for. I will look for the outline of the sticker. I will use a magnifying glass.

Congratulations on the Chairman's Choice Award, Candyce.

Just imagine what could have been won had you really brought along and showed that Corvair....

Have a GREAT time at Porsche Parade in Monterey !
