    "'While I'm At It" Syndrome

While visiting my friend Don (Rennman) to oggle his '66 Factory Prototype I got inspired into a bad case of "While I'm At It" syndrome. I've currently got the motor out of my car for some minor detailing and maintenance before installation, and I'm waiting for some parts. I took one look at Don's soundproof-free freshly restored engine bay and said to myself; "well while I'm at it...."

    Rennman's Prototype:

    My before:

    And now:

Eight hours later I can't feel my fingers, but damn I'm happy. Ain't life grand?

    Cheers,
    Mike

I should also mention I hadn't planned to do much to my new powerplant. "Hadn't" being the operative word...

This is all DIY stuff, so it's fun and most of it isn't costing me any more than my time and materials.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Looks great! Those must be some good chemicals you are using as they magically turned that 4-banger into a six!

Care to share your technique/chemicals used on stripping the soundproofing?

Sure Jonesy; a quart of StripperX from Home Depot, a couple of steel brushes and a 1" paint scraper. Nitrile gloves, goggles, degreaser, and finally some anti-corrosion spray to stop any surface rust from forming overnight.

Mostly just a lot of labor and patience. The extra cylinders came from somewhere else.
