As a bored motorhead 16 yr old (1978) , my buddy Scott and i would pool our $ to put gas in my mom's mustang and drive from the city of Orange to Newport to see what was new in Chic Iverson's showroom. I remember countless late foggy nights smooshing my face against the showroom window staring at the new Turbo's and SC's ......... funny that even then the 924,944,928 were just objects that i had to walk around to see the 9 series cars.
Question: What happened to the White "Rod Iron" VW bug that used to set in Chic's showroom ? ...

I believe you're right Chuck, I think there were about 15 of them that were built by request of VW with the first being in 68 and displayed at the Olympic games probably as part of the big change over from 67 to 68).
The one I think you're thinking of was at Vintage Parts in Burbank but there's also one in the Komori Collection in Japan, there's one at the VW museum, I believe one at West Coast Metric.

I love original dealership items and this recent acquisition is by far one of my favorites.

I am about 99% sure there is one in the Volkswagen museum in Wolfsburg, along with many other very unique items, including a similar in wicker. Doing a new engine program for VW (APS cylinder coating on Al block) for North America. spending about half of my time in Germany in the last yr, including now thru wk9. May have pics but one of those things you start taking pic then realize how much cool stuff is there and you just stop. I had a 67 Beatle my cousin bought new, I got it from her in 74, put about 600K miles on it, my wife had a half a million mile birthday for it, Sadly left it in orange county with a friend when I moved to NC and brought her MGB back instead of the 67, big mistake.
Back on topic, Moved to HB in 80 and used to also drive to see what was at Iverson's, also lucky enough to work around the corner from Andial on StGertrude & Grand and was able to see and hear so many great cars.
    Regards

Edit: 51 Cab with some familiar lines added
