    strange hockey puck help please.

this strange puck came on a wheel I just bought. left side is a normal one, seen lots, always like this one, right hand one is the strange one. it's slightly larger diameter, has no slots for the trim ring tabs, has what appears to be a factory center with a crest set into a leather backing plate. the plastic ribs are slightly different. any thoughts? thanks, Don.

The one with the metal crest is a home-made jobbie with a 356 wheel cap crest.

Did you reverse the bottom photo order from the top two ones?

yeah. oops. more/better pics. first two pics are the usual type, second two are of the strange one.
arco was correct, the metal crest was glued over the embossed leather, you can still see a bit of the embossing on the back of the wheel cap. the backer plate seems to be the same for both. the original leather on the strange one was flat on the backer with a trim rim pressed over the edge. the plastic is somewhat different, the strange one is bigger as mentioned, and the ribs are wider and more pronounced.and obviously the face and backside are different as in the pics.

after a search here I see these aren't that uncommon. funny that I've never run into one before. anyone know a changeover date? a 'puck' history?

It was a 912 that got parted out.

May be owners of 68/69 cars that are all original can check their button.

BTW once the leather is shot (shrunk) it's almost impossible to restore these buttons w/ new leather.
