Thread: 911 Normale Cars for Sale

    1966 Porsche
    Sold for:$218,384 USD
    https://www.artcurial.com/en/lot-196...11-swb-3980-84
    Italian title
    Chassis n° 303591
    Engine Tipo 901/01 n°903719
    Gearbox 902/1 n°227538

    - Interesting short wheelbase version
    - State of the art restoration
    - Original engine, original colours

This car was sold new to the United States at the start of 1966, through a dealer in San Antonio. The current owner, a major Porsche collector based in Modena, had been looking to add a short wheelbase (2 211mm) early 911 to his collection. He found this example in 2014 at Vintage Toys, Porsche specialists in Collecchio, near Parma, and bought it immediately. Our collector was attracted by its factory specifications and original colour combination, " Bahama Gelb " (code 6605 B) with black leatherette interior. The car also still had its original engine, as confirmed by a certificate of origin issued in November 2015 by Porsche Italy, which states that the car was first delivered with the options of tinted windows, Webasto heating and aerial.

As the car was painted red and in average condition when he bought it, our collector set about returning it to its former glory. A full restoration was carried out, back to bare metal with an anti-rust treatment, before the car was repainted in its original colour. The upholstery was renewed by Autotappezzeria Ferraresi, in Ferrara, using original " Pepita " fabric, and the mats were replaced. On the mechanical side, the original type 901/01 engine was rebuilt. It was originally equipped with a fuel system comprising two Solex 40 PI carburettors, which for ease of use were replaced with two Weber carburettors. The expensive original Solex carburettors were overhauled and kept with their air box, and could be easily re-fitted. They will be supplied with the car.
This superb Porsche comes with various documents including: the original certificate from Porsche Italy, the Automoto Storico Italiano (ASI) certificate, the guarantee letter for the engine from Rennsport Classic & Racing (Teggi Graziano), the declaration from Porsche Italy about the Solex 40 PI carburettors, several bills including the purchase invoice from Vintage Toys, photos of the restoration and a copy of the old US registration document, from Oklahoma.

In immaculate condition today, with its original engine and in original colours, this 1966 Porsche 911 is historically important, with the true character of an iconic model that remains in production today. There is a particular pleasure in driving one of the early versions, with the purest combination of form and function.

    Description:

The car is in great shape. It starts up right away, accelerates smoothly, idles well, drives straight, and stops just fine too.
California car, so no significant rust.
Interior is in great shape overall. Not faded, torn up, smoked in, and no dash cracks.
New brakes and new tires. Clutch a few years ago.
Here is a walk around of the car, and a video of it running and driving:
You can see that the car is in great shape, especially for the age.
Keeping that in mind, I do want to spend a disproportionate amount of time on the negatives & flaws so that all of the known issues are fully addressed and disclosed.
Please check the last photo for VIN information: 11805347

    Cosmetic:
Paint imperfections. The pictures say it all, no serious damage or indentations, and from far away it is quite eye catching. Up close though, it could definitely use love. There is orange peel in some areas around the car. There are some areas where paint has come of for doesn’t look the best. There are chips very noticeably on the lower section of the front bumper.
I would have it refinished, but since I am selling it, I am leaving it up to the next owner to customize as they desire (leave it as-is,change the color, RWB conversion, etc.) With the number of options available, I decided just to leave it up to the future owner to make their own.

    Interior:
    - 2 Vents on interior dash (Driver and passenger side. Middle isintact)
    - Armrest on driver’s door.

    Electrical:
    - Blower Fan
    - Sunroof
    - Windshield wipers
Could be loose connection, a blown fuse, or something else. Since none of those components directly affect how the car drives, they’ve gone unaddressed for the time being. (Thankful to be in California).

Forthose whom the photos and video don't suffice, I’m happy to take as many photos as you’d like me to, do a FaceTime tour, etc. I'm also willing to have the car can be taken to a mechanic (Porsche, 3rd party, or a local enthusiast) at your expense as well if desired. Not trying to hide anything whatsoever, so go to whatever lengths you desire prior to the purchase. With that in mind, the car is being sold in as-is condition.
Price is “OBO” and willing to make a deal as the values of these are scattered all over the place depending on condition. Please keep it reasonable considering the rarity and overall great condition.(Despite the flaws, its a running, driving, clean title, clean-bodied car).
For local buyers, it’s a pre-1975 car, so no smog needed.
Clean title in hand. If interested, please reach out. 720-252-1166.

    This could be:
    1. An incredibly ambitious but misguided attempt to "update" a real SWB 911
    2. An incompetent attempt to sell a '76 911
    3. An attempt at fraud

The car in the photos isn't even a short wheelbase car. The last photo shows what I think is a California "Vehicle Information Label" which--for some reason--shows a VIN which corresponds to a '68 Porsche 911. But, the Label says it's a 1976 Porsche 911.

    I'll vote for # 2: incompetent seller.

So at first i thought it was a scam, then maybe an unrealized potential, but it turned out to be an ambitious attempt to upgrade it in the 80’s and it fell through the cracks over the years and an unrealized potential with recent CL add.

    It’s 1968 911, “L” per the vin search
Updated to an SC in the olden days when these car where not worth >$,$$$ (assuming)
    Swapped and BARE’d 2.7 and 915 from a 1976S
    Fun to drive.

Thinking of back dating it to a 1973 carrera RS, a little closer to what it should be.

    For sale here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifi...php?id=2363341

    Description seller:

This 1965 911 was a 2 owner(2nd since 1967) from the west coast until 2015. This is a very original car with only 1 repaint in its factory Champagne Yellow. The interior also remains largely untouched with only the carpet and head liner replaced. The original engine was rebuilt in the 1970's and the car rarely been driven since. I had the engine and trans out and leak down test done, synchros done , cleaned and reinstalled. we blended the undercoating on the bottom and replaced all the bushings etc. The car is done!
