Thread: 911 Normale Cars for Sale

302568 Still exists. Last I saw it, it was "updated" but whole. It did have an early engine in it but with no engine number given. My sharp-eyed friend notes from the damage on the fan housing below, that is, indeed, the engine on Bring a Trailer 900348, Thanks.

    Auction Description:

    - A very collectible early short-wheelbase 911
    - Retains its numbers-matching engine
    - Long-term single-family ownership
    - Highly authentic example with its original interior
    - Kardex and Porsche Production Specifications certificate

According to a copy of its original factory Kardex, this 911 coupe was completed on the last day of August 1965, making it one of the last built before the factory’s annual late-summer model-year changeover. Originally Slate Gray over a red leatherette interior, it was fitted with U.S.-specification road equipment and optioned with a Webasto gasoline heater and fitted with Phoenix tires. The consignor states that he purchased the car in early 2017 from a Virginia family that believed to have acquired the car from new; it was passed from father to son and then to the son’s surviving spouse. The consignor adds that all the body panels appear to be numbers matching, and all the trim is original.

This car was fitted with front-seat headrests and a radio/antenna package, accessories commonly fitted after delivery to thwart dockside theft, a common problem in those days. Although this example has not been restored as such, it was repainted in Silver Metallic in the 1980s. It retains its original leatherette interior with three-point seat belts, highlighted by a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and the handsome wood-veneer dashboard trim housing VDO instrumentation. A set of desirable Fuchs forged alloy wheels conceal the four-wheel disc brakes. A new set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tires has also been fitted. The odometer read 1,399 miles at the time of cataloging, and it is likely that it has begun a second rotation. This 911 is supplied with its original owner’s manual, spare parts catalog, workshop manual, jack and hazard kit, as well as an extra hood badge, copy of the factory Kardex, and Porsche Production Specifications certificate.

Arguably one of the most iconic cars in the world, the Porsche 911 has captured the hearts of automotive enthusiasts for years. This car, a stunning, first-generation, short-wheelbase 911 is a very sought-after model among Porsche collectors. Remaining very much in the way it left the factory in 1965, save for an older repaint, this highly original 911 is ready to be enjoyed by new ownership.

    Auction Description:

    - The fourth 911 to bear the now famous ‘911’ nomenclature
    - Just three registered keepers from new and delivered new to France
    - Beautifully restored to original specifications
    - Exceptionally well documented

The first batch of Porsche’s new 901 coupés were completed on 14 September 1964 and numerous running changes were implemented on these early models. By Christmas, 232 cars had been completed. Due to a legal battle regarding nomenclature with Peugeot, Porsche agreed to change the designation to ‘911’, but only for cars delivered to owners after 1 January 1965, as cars already under construction carried 901 badging. There are nearly a hundred differences between those built in 1964 and 1965, some obvious and some quite subtle, including interior, body and trim features.

Chassis 300082 is one of four new cars completed on 12 November 1964.The factory’s hand-written ledger for these 232 cars, as illustrated in Tobias Aichele’s Porsche 911, shows that it was assigned engine no. 900193. According to Robert Fleming of Minnesota, keeper of the Early 911 Registry, it appears that the engine was changed before the car left the factory, as 900193 had been allocated to chassis 300067, which was constructed several weeks earlier. Thus, this car was delivered to its first owner with engine no. 900192. It retains that engine today.

Delivered on 19 December to Porsche’s distributor Sonauto in Paris, the consignor states that he acquired 300082 from its third known owner in France. It was reconfigured for historic racing at the time, but complete with its original body panels and engine. A correct interior was sourced, complete with the aluminium framed steering wheel that is unique to these early cars. It has been comprehensively restored in its original colour of Enamel Blue, as listed on its factory Kardex. The interior is correct Black leatherette with charcoal carpets. The dashboard cover is screwed into place from the top, which was a detail changed on later cars. The original steel wheels are properly date-stamped ‘11-64’. It is supplied with each of its original registration documents.

Shown at the 2018 Zoute Concours d’Elegance, it is certainly ready to appear at other concours events. Extremely rare, this survivor from Porsche’s initial foray into a six-cylinder GT coupé would make a wonderful addition to any collection of important sports cars.

I'd call it a '65 model year but it was built in '64 and has a lot of early features like a flat rear slam panel and a ring to pull for the gas filler door release (or is that the front deck?). Most of the distinctions made about this car are true although I thought the first 911 was more like 300049 or so not 300079.

    It has some "oddities"
    • The brass[?] ignition switch bezel's missing
    • Didn't the very early Solex air cleaners lack the chamfer on the rear of the right plenum?

    - Wonderful Aga Blue over Beige color combination
    - Numbers-matching example; 78,874 original miles
    - Includes correct spare wheel, jack, and owner’s manual
    - Porsche Production Specifications certificate

This fully numbers-matching ’65 911 was completed on 29 October 1965, departing the factory in the very elegant combination of Aga Blue over a Beige leatherette interior. The cockpit is highlighted by a warm wood veneer dashboard insert and wood-rimmed steering wheel with “Butterfly” horn button. It was modestly optioned with a Webasto gasoline heater, tinted glass all around, and a radio antenna kit. A Blaupunkt multi-band radio and speaker were installed, along with a pair of fog lamps, and a full set of factory chromed steel wheels bearing a manufacturing date of 4-64.

The consignor acquired this largely original 911 a dozen years ago from a family in Charleston, South Carolina. Although its earlier history is unknown, he notes that it is completely rust-free, perhaps due to it having been stored indoors for many decades. The odometer indicates 78,874 miles, which is believed to be correct. This desirable early 911 retains all its original sheet metal, glass, and all lighting assemblies. The paint and brightwork appear to be in excellent condition.

The consignor commissioned Gronbach Interiors of Gainesville, Florida, to replace the original upholstery with new cream Spinnybeck leather “for comfort and longevity.” New grey-blue German square-weave carpeting from Autos International was installed throughout, along with a new headliner. The consignor says he had the engine and brakes overhauled in Charleston soon after taking possession. There is now an electric fuel pump and an electronic ignition system.

This very attractive short-wheelbase 911 is supplied with a correct spare wheel and jack, a set of Coco mats, an owner’s manual, and Porsche Production Specifications certificate, confirming its original drivetrain and color combination. It has been recently serviced and is ready to provide its next owner many more miles of driving enjoyment.

    Auction Description:

    - A Carolina “barn-find;” 84,031 original miles
    - Numbers-matching drivetrain
    - Complete bare-metal lacquer re-paint
    - Thoroughly rebuilt using all its original parts
    - Porsche Production Specifications certificate

Porsche produced a mere 1,709 short-wheelbase 911 coupes for the 1966 model year; this example is among the first 100 in that group, known as the “O” series. It rolled off the assembly line 14 January 1966, painted Polo Red (6602) trimmed in Black leatherette, a popular combination in that era, and still today. A tinted windshield and rear glass were the only options requested by its first owner, a resident of Dothan, Alabama.

When the car was three years old, it was sold to an Eastern Airlines pilot from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and in 1980 it passed into the hands of Leonard Cummings of Marion, North Carolina. Eventually Mr. Cummings relocated to suburban Charlotte and around 1990, the car, still in very original condition and bearing a 1989 registration, was parked in a shed near Gastonia. The Porsche was acquired by the current owners three years ago, after nearly three decades of storage. The car was then taken back to their shop where, with fresh gas and an oil change, the 911 fired right up.

The new owners then decided to give this ’65 Porsche a full, bare-metal lacquer repaint after dealing with some surface concerns, though no evidence of prior body damage or repair was found. The car was completely disassembled and then thoroughly rebuilt using all its own original parts, aside from new seals around the windshield and rear glass. The interior was found to be in near-perfect original condition and was left as-is. It is not believed that the engine has ever been apart, and the consignor notes that it is otherwise dry, tight, and runs extremely well. Even the paint on the air cleaner can is nearly perfect. The original transmission received some new synchronizers.

After restoration, the car was presented at the Atlanta Concours in October 2017, where it won its class. The plan was to trailer the Porsche back to North Carolina with several other cars that were being shown, but when a customer’s 550 Spyder developed mechanical issues on the road, the 911 was offloaded to make room for the Spyder. Without skipping a beat, red coupe enjoyed a fast and trouble-free drive all the way back to the Carolinas.

With its fresh repaint and all-original interior, this outstanding, numbers-matching two-liter 911 presents beautifully throughout. It is supplied with a correct spare, jack, and tool roll, along with invoices relating to its recent paint and mechanical work. It is ready to provide its next fortunate owner many more hours of driving enjoyment.
