    - Interesting short wheelbase version
    - State of the art restoration
    - Original engine, original colours

This car was sold new to the United States at the start of 1966, through a dealer in San Antonio. The current owner, a major Porsche collector based in Modena, had been looking to add a short wheelbase (2 211mm) early 911 to his collection. He found this example in 2014 at Vintage Toys, Porsche specialists in Collecchio, near Parma, and bought it immediately. Our collector was attracted by its factory specifications and original colour combination, " Bahama Gelb " (code 6605 B) with black leatherette interior. The car also still had its original engine, as confirmed by a certificate of origin issued in November 2015 by Porsche Italy, which states that the car was first delivered with the options of tinted windows, Webasto heating and aerial.

As the car was painted red and in average condition when he bought it, our collector set about returning it to its former glory. A full restoration was carried out, back to bare metal with an anti-rust treatment, before the car was repainted in its original colour. The upholstery was renewed by Autotappezzeria Ferraresi, in Ferrara, using original " Pepita " fabric, and the mats were replaced. On the mechanical side, the original type 901/01 engine was rebuilt. It was originally equipped with a fuel system comprising two Solex 40 PI carburettors, which for ease of use were replaced with two Weber carburettors. The expensive original Solex carburettors were overhauled and kept with their air box, and could be easily re-fitted. They will be supplied with the car.
This superb Porsche comes with various documents including: the original certificate from Porsche Italy, the Automoto Storico Italiano (ASI) certificate, the guarantee letter for the engine from Rennsport Classic & Racing (Teggi Graziano), the declaration from Porsche Italy about the Solex 40 PI carburettors, several bills including the purchase invoice from Vintage Toys, photos of the restoration and a copy of the old US registration document, from Oklahoma.

In immaculate condition today, with its original engine and in original colours, this 1966 Porsche 911 is historically important, with the true character of an iconic model that remains in production today. There is a particular pleasure in driving one of the early versions, with the purest combination of form and function.
