This car will be offered for sale by Bonham's at the Quail next month. The estimate is $300 to 350K. Interesting to note that it was originally built with a '73 911/83 engine 6630892 according to the description.

Does seem rather strange why Bonomelli wouldn't just order an RSR. He drove RSR 1169 in several events, but he must not have owned that car. Too bad this car was not restored more accurately.

Interesting bit from, Bonham's pitch . . .
'. . . The front hood is aluminum . . .'
Bonhams must mean "Ennio," not Enno, right?

I struggle to understand what is correct and what maybe typos in this description
"The factory-issued Certificate of Authenticity lists the original 2.4 liter Type 911/53 engine case as number *663 0892*"
911/53 is a 911S 2.4 but 663 0892 is a 911/83 2.7RS engine that was in a German delivered RS, 9113600896 made in March 1973. It is hard to believe that the same engine ended up in an early 73 built 911s.
Maybe the COA is not quite correct and the correct engine number should be 633 0892? That is what the numbers on the engine look like in the photo of the engine bay although i cant quite get enough resolution to be certain. However the words "currently fitted with a 2.7" later in the description does not make it clear whether that is on the same case or a completely new engine (in which case the COA couldn't possibly be correct)

The gearbox number does suggest a special ratio box with the numbers translating to it being a 1972 box with optional ratios

Seems like a waste of funds to outlay at that time in 1973 . E. Bonomelli himself (or many other competent Porsche race mechanic's in IT) could have prepared a grp. 3 , F-series , 2.4 911S for MUCH less (and also using whatever additional factory parts which were fitted - after all not much exotic could be , a grp. 3 car is basically stock).
This does not make alot of sense to me , I would really need to pour over records.... find out the history. And determine exactly how it left the factory (for instance , I seriously doubt the air cleaners I see in a Symbolic placed ad. were legal for grp. 3. As an example , if you removed the carpets from a car it was enough to disqualify it from grp. 3).
Just my opinion.
A few months later , I believe , RS 2.7's were being raced grp. 3 . When was an F-series RS 2.7 legally able (homologation approved) to enter a sanctioned race as a grp 3 car ? The first actual listing I can find is in aug. 1973.
Like the color and the look....... Hope it gets all the money regardless of the fable.....

Yeah, I'll bet you are correct and the engine serial number is 633 not 663. For clarity it would be great to have a good photo of the engine serial number though.

They could have put on an orange bar hood badge on it at least. It looks to be a cool car though.
