    1969 Porsche 911S #119300717

I am new to the registry and I am in the process of restoring the above referenced car. I found this car in Tucson but live and am having the car restored in Cleveland. Two questions? 1. What is the best way to seek out a cars history? 2. The car seems very complete. The engine numbers match. With regard to the transmission number #7193994, is this number available in more than on spot? The number we found is not legible.

    Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

    Damon,
    Welcome to the forum.

Regarding seeking out your car's history, any paperwork that came with the car is usually the best place to start. You are probably aware you can order a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche Cars North America which will tell you (through often times incorrect interpretation) how you car left the factory.

Regarding transmission #: I am not sure if it is in more than one spot on the housing. You should see two sets of stampings on the spine of the case though. First set closer to front of car is the transmission type. For your car, it should read 901/13. Further back towards the engine you should see the numbers for the case. So look for two sets of numbers.

This site is a great resource. As a fellow 69 S owner, I commend you for taking on the project.

Post some pics and any questions on your thread. It keeps the site interesting and reference-able for others.

    Congrats once again

    Hey, Damon . . .

Welcome and congratulations on getting your car.

Regarding your car's history, try searching by the VIN --- like here, on The Registry (. . . like I did):

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ight=119300717

I remember that car --- crystal blue was it? --- with a funky AC-condenser install. I thought it was a pretty wonderful car. Glad to see it back, turn up here.

I think the best threads here are people dishing about their projects, so . . . . write some updates, post some pictures, tell us what's going on? . . .

Engine & transmission #'s are stamped only once. What is the paint code on the badge?

I was told it was Pastel Blue. I was contacted in February about a reference for a restorer for this car by a friend of mine out in Phoenix. Who did you find to do the car? And to echo the above sentiments, you'll certainly find a bunch of good information here.

Post a few pics when you get the chance.

The car is being restored in Cleveland. Steinel's Autowerks (www.steinels.com) is doing mechanical and Panelwerks (www.panelwerks.com) is doing the body and paint. Seem to be great people at both place.

This board has been an incredible asset as I press forward with my present project so I thought I would start sharing a few pics. I have been amazed at the commentary I found from posts before I even owned the car and how spot on the people identified issues. Thus far the car has been a dream . . . very little rust. The biggest issue was removing the aftermarket airconditioning. I will post those pictures shortly. Here is the beginning.
