Marco, I will update my profile. I live in the Santa Rosa Valley at the north end of the Santa Monica Mtns, just above Westlake Village. I might consider joining you at the open house, as I'm not too far away from TIG, but I'll be in Costa Rica on a combo fly fishing/surfing trip with my fellow POC racing buddy and future brother-in-law.

""The guys are suggesting that if you're looking to maintain a specific value relevant to the build date and specs, then backdating has pitfalls...John""

John, thank for the support! Unfortunately, after six years of Porsche Cup racing, I've been desensitized to indiscriminate spending and the loss of my money. If a backdating project distracts me from racing for six months (which is the goal), I'll have saved money! BTW...What kind of "hot rod" do you have?

Hmm. If you skip the Costa Rica trip maybe you could do a backdate and keep racing at the same time!

Craig, sounds like a brilliant holiday!

As you may have picked up from my handle I've a strong background in fisheries (recreational and commercial) and still love wetting a line in the tropical north of my continent (google Barramundi ). I have tried to take them on a fly... got punished

If you click my signature where is mentions my restoration saga, you'll see the exploits of my '69t hotrod restoration. Nearly done!

John, I watched a TV program about fly fishing for Barramundi. They are like tarpon who just graduated from a Sumo wrestling academy!

Thanks for your resto link! I love the color (choosing a color has me losing sleep. The toughest decision yet by far). All my Porsche buddy's tell me to just buy one already restored and save money. Your story is exactly why I'd rather start from scratch. I can't see paying the premium for what somebody else considers "restored". As in your case, "rust removal" is not always done correctly. I'm stripping mine down to bare metal as well. I want to keep this car and I don't want cancerous surprises five years down the road. Starting from scratch, not only do I get to set the car up exactly how I want it, but I can avoid undoing those things I paid a premium for that I end up changing anyway.

You idea for a resto forum is a great one. I've started cataloging thread content and titles on Pelican so I can find the threads with the info I need.

Here is my starting point, and how it sat yesterday. It goes to the sodablaster next week.

    Hi Craig and welcome.
It is a temptation to buy some one elses car, but as you say the only way to get what you want is to build one for yourself. There has always been two camps about modifying cars from stock. At one end is the concourse car people that use the car as an object of art and the other are the pure racers that use the car as a tool. I am some where in between as most owners are.
I recommend looking at what enthusasts of other car makes do and even compare to other hobbies. I still belive that modifying and having fun building and driving a Porsche is the best bang for the buck.
I have customers that win cars shows with their perfect cars and some that have whale tails on their SWB so it handles better. The thing that they all have in common is they are having fun..
    IMHO
