    Harry,
I knew you would note that. I didn't want to get in trouble with Chuck.

First, my Pink Floyd opinion was with (and without) Syd. David Gilmour was a OK replacement.

Second, you are musician's guy. You like the music? You enjoy when the guitars' hit that spot with the bass and drums?

But what about The Eagles in 4-musician harmony (Hotel California)?
"On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway...

    We are programmed to receive
You can checkout any time you like,
    But you can never leave!"
    Harry,
    What about Rush ("Red Barchetta")?
"I strip away the old debris
    That hides a shining car.
    A brilliant red Barchetta
    From a better, vanished time.
I fire up the willing engine,
    Responding with a roar.
    Tires spitting gravel,
    I commit my weekly crime...

    Suddenly ahead of me,
    Across the mountainside,
    A gleaming alloy car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide.
I spin around with shrieking tires,
    To run the deadly race,
    Go screaming through the valley
    As another joins the chase...."
King Crimson and "In the Court of the Crimson King"?

good stuff! i definitely love that part about the eagles hotel california. when their guitar riffs and solos are in harmony, thats just awesome. same thing i love about dickie betts era allman bros. jessica is an obvious choice but blue sky always hits the note for me.. especially at the end of the solos..

funny store about my copy of are you experienced. when i was in college, oh about 10 years ago, I went into a record store and looked through the zeppelin section and found houses of the holy. I have those records! (along with around 5,000 more). In fact, Pet Sounds and Surf's Up are both in my play cabinet of 600 LPs. Just played SU last week!

Not a Frampton fan though - there's a lot of competing music from 1976 that I like much better.

Putting together a personal list of 100 records is an interesting exercise. Very subjective! And the list changes over time. Pet Sounds could be on it next month. Frank Sinatra's Watertown should be. 100 seems like a lot, but I think I originally culled it down from 250. Had to let many albums go to make room for the ones I felt had to be on there at the time.

For myself, I decided to only include one album per artist, and only those that meant something for me emotionally. They also needed to hold together as an album - be thematic and have no weak songs. It's a challenge that is becoming difficult to meet today with the focus on singles via downloads, itunes, etc. Even the non-conceptual album is a vanishing art form. This unfortunately includes the high res presentation of sonics and art, along with the gatefold album cover. Progress...

You guys have some great lists. I don't think I could do a "Top 100". It would drive me crazy trying to decide who to add and who would be dropped.

Of course, having lived in GA all of my life, I am a big Allman Brothers fan. And being in the ~1980+ music scene in Athens (GA), I drank beer and ate cheeseburgers with R.E.M. and the B'52s before they were popular. I know where that train trusell is on the "Murmurs" album is, and I've been to the "Love Shack" (it burned down later, it did have a tin roof).

Curt, I think "Pet Sounds" is one of the best albums ever made. I also like Brian Wilson's 2004 version of "Smile" (since the Beach Boys never finished their version). I do like "Frampton Comes Alive!" and enjoyed his stuff from his previous band (Humble Pie).

You may (or may not ) find these albums interesting:

These are the British-issued albums. I always thought the Brits released albums were better quality than the U.S. versions.

    The Beatles:

I believe "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" is my favorite album.

Here is "Magical Mystery Tour" in U.S. (left) and British versions:

Here are a couple that you may not know. I was a big Clash fan ("Train in Vain") at one time and a big fan of British Indie and Shoegaze rock. Two box sets:

Just saying. I don't just live "Through the Past, Darkly". I like some rock of the last decade (and on my "Top 100"): Muse, Killers, Modest Mouse, Pure Reason Revolution, The Tragically Hip, Kings of Leon, Porcupine Tree...

Anyone know what the red barchetta is in the Rush song (I'll post a picture)?
