An interesting non-Porsche for the Friends of Steve McQueen show: a Works MGC-GT, 9th o/a in the '67 Targa Florio (Hopkirk/Makinen), 10th o/a in the '68 Sebring 12 Hours (Hopkirk/Hedges). The big BMC six gives 200 hp.

    The Winners

Here is a shot of the winners of the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show 2012: the boys who put in the work making trophies, serving dinners, directing traffic, and judging cars -- who were also learning the important lesson that the hardworking staff at Boys Republic have been teaching by example for over a century: that showing respect for others is the best way to earn the respect for themselves. Kudos to Bruce Canepa and Kerry Morse for "getting" what BR does. There was a steady stream of men of "a certain age" all day with a dreamy look in their eyes staring at this car (917-015, the 1970 Daytona winner) -- none more dreamy than Chad McQueen, who does so much to carry on his dad's legacy of service to the young men living at BR.
