can the experts on here discern anything from these 3 photos?

I am looking for a 65 car...did some heavy flirting with the recent ebay cars but I felt there was insufficient info to bid up

meantime a different car is on my radar which is currently on a boat in the atlantic but unfortunately I dont have a vin, all I am told is its a 65...

SO...my question is...can you tell anything from these photos that would make you think its a genuine car and secondly a 65 or 66 MY?

    thanks in advance, cheers

By the pictures .. After Feb. 1966 build.

BTW the rear fenders look to be flared?

Which direction is that boat heading? lol
Too bad about the rear fenders, it looks to be fairly honest otherwise. The wrong decos and a couple of other things can easily be remedied (Oh the stuff people used to do to "update"). Still has original engine compartment sound pad. That's cool.
Since it's not a '65 and what you're looking for I'll be happy to buy this piece of junk. Hopefully pirates won't get it first... and I don't mean the seafaring type. PM sent.

the front fenders are flaired too.

However, the rears are NOT your "run-of - the-mill " flairs. The rear flairs look to be "purpose" flairs done by a shop or factory. The car could have some history. As a matter of fact, Frank you're too funny, this is a CA car with it's owiginal plate. So it's a 67,66, maybe 65. Motor looks to be a 2.2 or 2.4 setup.

Wouldn't a car that late have metal edging on the wood dash?

Weber carbs, later airbox, 2 hole horn grills are all inconsistent with a 65MY car.

    interesting interesting....keep em coming

webers agreed but totally inconclusive, loads of 65 cars had webers put on by people who couldnt set up the solexes properly

airbox maybe or maybe just an easy fitment for a dusty location?

    horn grills agreed

flared arches... not unknown on very rare factory prototypes

Good assessment. It looks like an honest car but not the one the OP is looking for. I like it ... kind of funky and easily made into a "period piece".

    A couple of observations:

Engine looks to be a Weber engine: the fuel pump area is part of the casting but was not opened/covered. Check the engine serial number and type and verify (probably a 901/5 rather than a 901/1).

Different center knob between the factory control knobs for Fog Light/ Gas Heater. What's it hooked up to?

    The car has character.

To me it looks like there’s a red triangle on the knob, could it be a switch for hazard lights?

    Interesting car.
