Part number is part number so I understand the distinctions but don't get it either. This is the proper part number form the 67 R catalog on forward for the 10K tach.Andrea sold a nos one just like this and hesaputz posted photo of tach with same paper label.

I don't believe it's impedance, I think the imp is abriviated from the German word "Impuls".

When I made reference to the Porsche p/n in my earlier post, that was because during 8K to 10K gauge conversion of my two gauges, North Hollywood applied the proper face-plate image they use to duplicate the face plate of the factory VDO 10K unit used by the 914-6 GT, not the 911R, the GT used p/n 911.641.304.00.

In 1967, the 10K VDO gauge Porsche used in the 911R had this p/n 901.741.102.03

...this is now turning into another technical thread, another interesting topic that seems to now come up more often with the proliferation of "converted 8k tachs" offered for sale. At the end, we certainly would want to walk away knowing unequivocally what constitutes an original 10k VDO tachometer gauge.

BTW, this thread should be moved to the "Technical Info" section of this site, not the 'For Sale/Wanted' of the classifieds...

    The answer is "15,000"...

Reference page #2, post #15. The first photo posted is of the very same 10K tach Oliver now has (note the red marker over first two digits of the 'imp' stamp in his photo, the very same stamped markings in back of the can, the ghostly stamp just above the 11.67 date-code, even the three small sheet-metal screws are indexed exactly the same, etc.).
The reason why I said earlier; "Here is a monkey wrench".

So we now have 15,000 and 24,000 and 30,000 impulses in the mix. Did I miss any other impulse range?

Yes, of course, how can we forget 21000, now that you mention it Mike...
When you get a chance, could you post a nice pix of the back of your can?
    Thx Mike!

Back of the cans, or side

The 21000 tack is a later tack, 5/87 red pointer no bullet. Info and label is on the side - 3 pictures
The next is a white pointer with bullet dated 02/66 & 24000. The last is a red pointer with bullet dated 03/70 and overite 30000

I have recently acuired this 10K tach for my future ST rep. It was used on a 2.2S engine and had gotten into this car as a 2nd tach.
The strange thing about this one is that it has an 80's ink date stamp with no other stanos on the back and the 30000 Imp is stamped on the side of the can.
The can does have the early can studs to fix the tacho secure and all screws on the back still have the transparent green seal, so it appeas to not have been opened up.
If I look at the face I see the partnumber silc screened and another number at the bottom of the facial plate. Overall the white silk screen paint finish seems to be a little thinner than the 70's gauges I have.
How do I determine if this is an original or repro?
Wouldn't it have been a bit strange for this Tach to be in production in the 80's, while this tach was superceded by the GT 911 partnumber equivalent of the 10K tach for 8 and 6 PIN CDI boxes and electric ignitions?
