    1968 details

I could swear that I have seen a thread here with a discussion of the unique details of the 68MY but despite my searching, I can't seem to come up with a concise resource, although there are plenty of one-off posts on the topic. Can someone point me in the direction if such a thread does exist here? Thanks

    1968.1 or 1968.2?

this is one of the most bstrd model year...

In those days Porsche changed everything... new production process, new plants, new strategies....

I know about some of the unique details about the US68 (side markers, interior door panel trim, rear view mirror, fenders, etc.), and it certainly seems like a transitional year for Porsche in many ways. I was hoping to find a definitive thread like the one mentioned re 69

Yes, MY68 would be interesting. Especially when it comes to trim, switches etc.

which brings up an interesting thought:

If a person sent back a 68 to the factory---to Porsche Classic for a restore, do you suppose if would be constructed back the way if was made as a .1 or .2 and not updated to their running change / better technology ideal ? Meaning all the little nuances seprating the .1 from the .2 were addressed and followed to the letter of the law ?

I would certainly hope the thousands upon thousands of dollars extra in cost would get a significantly more authentic product, especially as you view their video presentation on their processes.....as they tout the benefits of going with them in the restoration. Making or appropriating the materials shelved in their archives. A newly Made again by Porsche 911.
(In the video footage, there is a 64 sitting in their warehouse waiting for a new life.) Google on youtube Porsche Classic.

It would be a bit painful getting it back with a COA like approach to the matter and finding a whole new car built by them, but slightly altered. Then what ? I mean , it was made again by Porsche ? Only in a different way, or maybe better ?

Something akin to the #1 Porsche J.S. had sent back and all the controversey that surrounded that ordeal.

SORRY, maybe should have not brought that back up.....

I wasn't aware of any major mid-year change in the 68 MY. So what's the major difference between the .1 and .2 iterations?
