Thanks for the clarification Ed. Yes I knew the time limit was to prevent flooding. But I thought it took longer to cool off than a few seconds. But it makes sense that it effectively resets for the next crank attempt.

Thanks, You Guys --- for describing this
My warm starts are simple. I turn the key = the car starts. Yawn
Little more to the cold-start procedure. Pretty-much as described by others, above --- charge the fuel pump, wait ~10-secs, hand-throttle up, then hit the starter (w/ almost zero contribution from the pedal) has functioned that way for me almost since Day One = zero-drama . . .
. . . with one exception
It was a particularly cold AM in semi-coastal CA --- maybe ~30F? Tried starting the car as per above . . . nope. Tried again ---- + again ----------- + again . . .
. . . nothing
Thought about it . . . then just hit the starter, hit pedal, pumped pedal, held the pedal down, few choice words/stray thoughts . . .
. . . No. Thing
Went in the house, found my Insurer's help-number, went back for one last try, and . . . . she started
Reads like the comments above would run counter to my shenanigans
Thanks, again, You Guys
I believe your electric engine panel cover should have these type of nuts instead of wing nuts. Just trying to help and not nick pick. Car is beautiful, I'm curious are you afraid to drive it and get it dirty, since it so clean and new like, with so much hard work and time put in it?
Wing nuts are correct for 73

Thanks, wing nuts are definitely correct for my ‘73. I have yet to drive it, so dirt has only come from blowing out the garage every day with a leaf blower! In Ontario we have to get a major safety inspection before a car can be driven, so I’m working towards that goal in a few weeks. One item is a working front defroster, so I have to get my blower mounted and drain hole drilled and pipe welded into the smuggler’s box. That’s tomorrow’s job.
Today’s was to get the rear 2-stage defroster working. The entire saga described in this thread. http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-is-this-cable

Wing nuts were used starting Jan 3 , 1973 , so early '73's had knurled knobs .

Taking it to my Porsche Classic dealer, just 13 minutes from my house. That way if anything needs remediation, we can talk intelligently about it.

A very productive labour day weekend. Blower installed and all flaps tested out. Blows hot or cold as desired! This was the last piece needed for the Ontario safety (other than the windshield, which will have to wait for me to jet over to the UK and return. And yes those are 4 bright hose clamps that need to be plated this winter.
As part of that installation, I drilled the holes for the drain tube (welded up when long lost A/C was installed) but today everything was closed so I couldn’t hunt down some thin walled steel tube. Discussion on the drain tube size and material here. http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-air-box-drain
And then it was time to button up the frunk. Snaps and wood plank installed. Snaps with a handy kit from Sailrite.
Interior done, including the red and blue squares for the heater control. Need to tension the door pocket bungees still. Turn signal cancel ring installed. Can’t believe that cost a hundred bucks from Porsche.
Rear seats now work well thanks to advice received here. http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-carpet-tricks The key was to screw the back flap down so the carpet folds properly. I hadn’t done that originally and then it folded wrong.
I have the 4 black plastic screws and washers to blank off the rear seat belt holes, but am actually going to install rear lap belts for occasional rides for a friend’s kid.
Little bits and bobs to do still bit should be ready for the safety inspection when I return.
