----on the trans issues, try going with Swepco 201 for the lube, and when driving, learn to double clutch, especially the lower gears. It makes all the difference in the world on these 2 points ~~~~~you may not have to do any rebuilds in a long while following these two recommendations.

As for the car, its a beauty ! Glad you found another rust free example.....the h/l bucket is a small thing in the grand scheme of things, all considered.

BUT, you know that already. Congratulations !
    Best Regards,

beh911... great tip!! You were dead-on. Bonnett lights work when the key is engaged and the headlights are on. So now, the only light not working on the car is one of the
    two rear license lights.

mrgreenjeans...thanks for the tip and the comment.

The car has cleaned up pretty well... the paint quality isn't great, and the hood is probably the most nicked up, but the car is suprisingly straight. Here's a couple more photos.

    July 8 update

...Ok... another update... Bought a used, but freshened, 911/01 trans from someone who responded to my post looking for a transmission. Hope to get it installed this week.
I plan to keep the old unit, just so the car can always be restored to "matching numbers" should someone want to do that some day. I'm crossing my fingers that this transmission is as good as the guys said it is.... he seemed like a good guy.

Ok...another update. The replacement transmission looks to be good. I'm thrilled. Everything shifts fine,..no grinding, shifts smoothe, etc... I think I'm at a stopping point now. I'll be keeping the old trans so the car can be returned to matching-numbers, but a good used/refurbished transmission was cheaper than having the old one rebuilt.
I think I'm probably going to end up selling the car. I'm not really in a rush to do so, because I like the car a lot, but I just don't have garage space. I have two other Porsches, so something will have to sit outside, and I don't like that... I'll probably drop a 'for sale' sign on it. I'll likely drive it to Irvine's Cars & Coffee tomorrow.
I'm thinking this is a $25k car. What do you think?

That car got sold a while back. I remember seeing Dave with the car and a For Sale sign in the window at cars and coffee one morning. Cool little driver...
