San Fran and N Porsche haunts...

I am headed to San Francisco and then north to Portland for a family vacation.

I would like to try to catch a few good sites or shops or ??? along the route. please give me your recommendations on places to see and things to do that would satiate the lust for early Porsche stuff.

Since nobody's going to make any suggestions, I'll stop lurking and post my own: head south!

Seriously, I don't think that there's much between S.F. and Portland to see. Perhaps Palmaz Vineyards in the Napa Valley will agree to let you see Dr. Julio Palmaz's Porsche collection. It contains a few of the best in the world although I am told that Dr. Palmaz recently sold the Jewel in the Crown, the first Porsche to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans overall: 917-023. Between there and Emory's in McMinnville, OR I'm not aware of much going on other than personal stuff -- like Scott Longballa's garage.

However, a 50-minute drive to the south and Scotts Valley will take you to Bruce Canepa's Vatican of All Things Good in the world of sportscars and hot rods. I've been to the old Porsche, Daimler-Benz, and BMW Museums; to Rosso-Bianco; to Mulhouse/Schlumpf; to Harrah's in its glory days; to Briggs Cunningham's place when he was still around. For someone who reads this Board, Canepa's knocks them all into a hat.

Those mentioned south plus Jerry Woods.
Pacific Fuel Injection, Easy, Fantasy Junction, Parts Haven, Our shop is not far from the freeway north.
    There are many more..
I would not recommend Palmaz. I went with the first tour. You need an appointment and a tour of the winery. Canepa is much better.

It must have been at least 10 years ago that I stopped by. There is a shop / guy called Dink Farmer. There were a lot of 356 / early 911/912 at his warehouse. I believe the town is Ukiah and occasionally I see / hear his name so I guess he is still around.
