Thread: Bonomelli's LOST twin cam engine

  1. #31
    Hello Porsche Maniacs,

this is my first post, but I‘m a long time lurker. I accidentally came across this thread about the 3-valve engine. The pics that were posted on Pelican were given to me by Gabriele Gottifredi.
As I talk to him nearly every day, I told him about this thread and he was pleased to hear that
these old experiments pop up from time to time. The Bonomelli shop has been the breeding ground for many talented Italian Porsche experts. Gabriele still has the (nearly) complete engine, with exception of the Bonomelli slide induction (but he has the respective blueprints).
Apart from being a real engine wizzard, he‘s a very kind person and I try to convince him to chime in. During his life he worked on a variaty of interesting projects and he has a lot memories about the good old times. I have attached some pics of a MFI system, which he developed and adapted to the
904, which he used for hillclimb races. Those were the days... I hope you like it.

    Hello to everyone,

just register on Early911Registry. I live in Brescia, birth town of Ennio Bonomelli. My Porsche mechanic start his career in Carlo Noce factory, Sportwagen, located in Brescia. He was also very close to Gabriele Gottifredi due to the fact that both, Noce and Gottifredi, as many other italian Porsche tuner like Orlando Redolfi, started their professional life in Ennio Bonomelli work shop. I got the chance to touch with hands the famous three valve engine because after Gottifredi passed away a customer of my mechanic bought from his wife the famous parted engine and my mechanic, GT Car Racing, assembled it. I then visit Essen Technoclassica in spring 2019 in Germany and I found the engine already sold by the new owner. I don't know if it was sold in Germany or wherever around the world...Name: PHOTO-2019-04-14-23-15-03.jpg

Mercedes 6-cyl pump adapted for the occasion?

I wonder if it had a better suited space cam?

Very interesting thread. Which brings me to the question: Why didn't Mezger ever try to copy the 3-valve design? It's what F1 teams do - copy each other.

This is fantastic! 547 engine with fuel injection. Do you know which category he ran this 904? Did this put the car into a prototype class?

    Ciao,
