1971 911S Air Filter Cleaner Housing Snorkel: Which is correct??

I've noticed some 911S's have snorkel pointing to the right side of the engine,
and others pointing towards the left side. Is this solely because of the A/C pump option?
I've seen a few 911S's (without A/C) with their snorkel pointing to the right.

*Mine points to the RIGHT but has no A/C.

Both cars in photos are 1971 S's
