Maybe another change in the production line. From my car (very) late 65 - 301829...
The badge pins look to be about 40mm. I didnt want to perservere with removing the badge off the wood tonight.
The badge pins were also just into the wood, they did not protrude through the steel glovebox lid. Although there were empty holes in the lid where perhaps the earlier badge did.

The ruler shows where the first pin is in the "9" across to the second "1"

And to add to the original question, it looks to be silver on mine.

    Hi Reuben

Thanks for the info - the pin location you mention and measurement pretty much ties in with the emblem I have that does not fit what I have.

Seems we may be looking at a change somewhere between 301022 & 301829.

Anyone with an earlier car can confirm - I'm still looking for the old wood from my glovebox - (about to start demolishing the workshop to find it).

Fortunately I did not drill the holes in the new wood yet !!

In addition the pins on the Porsche item are not long enough to protrude through the wood/lid and get a clip on. I have no idea what application it is that was provided - doesn't seem to me that even if they rearranged the pin location on the emblem that the size is correct. rant over any thoughts?....
The pins only press into the wood - they do not protrude or have an anchor thru the metal. I seem to remember there were two different pin spacings for the rear lid 911.

    Hope this helps.

Indeed the pins do not protrude the wood. And for sure there were two different sizes on the deck lid but not sure if the change over date...

Had a thought today... maybe the 48mm spaced holes in the steel glovebox lid are only used when it was a painted dash 912. I measured the badge on my 912 today and that would be about right, although my car is a wood trimmed dash one.
    Random google pic for reference

Thanks Reuben & Stephen - I'd say that solves the riddle.
Never contemplated they would not use the holes in the steel part for 911 emblem.
