    Black forest RS

    Dear gents,

Having been steered in the right direction by your guidance, does anyone have any information/comments on the following car:

    http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ype-build.html

I believe I just bought this '72, and will begin making it my own. Seeing as the car is presently on the West Coast where it would be a million times easier for me to get work done, any information from board members who know the car would be invaluable.

THe plan for now is to swap out the recaros and wevo for somewhat more classic racing looks, and change the RS front bumper to an R/ST style bumper with a splitter and opening for cooler (yes, the bumper will be a blatant copy of the brilliant design work of Singer).

    Many thanks,

    -F-

PS: Hoping to fly down for Sep 22, San Diego Classic speed festival.

    Congratulations on the purchase.

It looks like a slick little runner...

Congrats on the car. As far as the Wevo just change it to the classic black shift lever with a new boot and shift knob and you'll be set. It's a great shifter. I would recommend TLG and John Esposito for the work you want done. They are right next door to each other and could handle the paint for the new bumper and mechanicals all in one place.

    Bienvenue,
Not too many Porsche experts in your neck of the woods. The few serious early 911 owners I know in Montreal come to Toronto for their work. The kind of work you have described really doesn't need an expert though, so you can do the work yourself or find a trusted shop.

Congrats on your purchase, you are buying a very nice car. I drove the car two weeks ago while Mark had it at the autocross in San Diego. It drove very well; acceleration, steering, shifting and braking all felt nice, tight and balanced. All in all, very solid. I was quite impressed with the body, panel fit and paint; all really nice. The aluminum bright work is excellent which was nice to see. 16" wheels also looked good.

I'd change the front bumper and interior and you will have a teriffic looking classic 911. Just because I'm almost as OCD as my pal Scott Longballa I'd drop the engine and at least treat it to complete detail, and probably the same for the gas tank and front trunk. The business end needs to look just as good as the rest of the car IMO. It's close, not much needs be done to make this a great car. I also agree with Scott, change the Wevo for their classic shift lever and your done.

Lots of great early 911 experts in San Diego, i'm happy to recommend some vendors of you want to have some of the work done around here. You wont be disappointed when you walk around this very nice car, well done.

Hehe, those are the first two things I brought up. Plus the steering wheel and taking out the sparcos which Mark has some use for. Now debating which GTS classics to put in. Mark has been great and will continue some of the work. I agree with the front bumper, I really prefer the S/R/ST type. The WEVO will go to a more classic WEVO in black and with a boot, but the car seems to work well with it so I'll stick to the WEVO instead of the SC: thank you Mr Longballa. Will go for a black/metal look on the interrior, a mix of old world and new world: old world diamond stitch leather like coachworks, and new world metal ... maybe brushed aluminum which would be easy as I could use a tonne of the Rennline parts and just give them a "touch".

Nick, thank you so much for your driving impression !!! What a difference that makes to someone buying a car "site unseen" from a million miles away ! Mark was so pleasant and gave me such a great feeling that I had little doubts but it's great to hear my "gut feeling" being validated.

Again, thanks a mil to everyone here !

    F,

There's lots of great info and resources on this board, spend so time, you'll learn a lot.

Let me know when that wevo comes out, as i've got a car that would benefit from it.

For seats, I strongly recommend you look at www.vintageseats.com, the owner, Michael Eberhardt is a member here, and a true enthusiast. His seats are great, accurate reproductions, built for lightweight, but also strength, and all using top notch materials (the most accurate vinyls, corduroys and houndstooth available) I was just in atlanta, and got to see all his various offerings, was very impressed.

I'm not connected to vintage seats in any way, I simply think they offer a great product at a competitive price.

And to help matters, the upholstery work happens in SoCal, so you'd save shipping costs by buying his seats

Best of luck, and a great car....

+1 I ordered a set of R Seats from Vintage Seats due in next Friday. I had the chance to visit the shop before ordering to see and sit in various samples and was very impressed with the attention to detail andquality of materials. I highly recommend you take a look at what Vintage Seats has to offer.

+2 on the Vintage Seats recommendation. I have two that were produced during the Zwinakis era, and really like them. I'm in Atlanta, have met with Michael and viewed his operation, and as a result believe that the current Vintage Seat products are at least as good as they have ever been, if not better. You will be very pleased with the quality, and Michael is a real enthusiast for these cars.

BTW, that is a very appealing car, and sounds like it is set up very well for driving. I agree on the suggestions to keep the WEVO and replacing the shift rod and knob with OEM-type items.
