Barnfind 911S chassis 310001S in South Africa

i am Greg Bailey From RSA

Earlier this year my father and I were fortunate enough to stumble upon a barnfind 911.
i will put some pics up tomorrro, as they on another pc.

We bought it with the intention of building it into a race car. A few days after purchasing it, we discovered that it was a special chassis number 310001S. after buying several Porsche books and scanning the net there was almost no place that listed this chassis number except a website called Simons SC site.

We then decided to take the car to our friendly Porsche centre JHB for some help and possibly a certificate of origin. there they confirmed that the chassis number was real and came back with the following info.

"Hi Peter

Attached is what the factory has come back with, looks like it was a test vehicle.

7/15/2012 5:28:40 PM , Aftersales Intern: Dear Stefan, PAG found details for 310001S (see attachment), vehicle was delivered to the testing departmnet in April 1967, unfortunately only the below information is available.

Engine No. 981712
Transmission No. 104690
Key No. CC 164
Color 6664 D/C
Exterior Color light beige
Interior: Partial leather beige

So here we sit with this info and what we can say that the engine and gearbox numbers do not match the numbers Porsche has given us. it currently has a 4 speed 912 gearbox and a 1968T engine.

So can any body help us find the engine and gearbox that the car left the factory with?
Also does anyone have access to more info possibly about the car, or at least help me with where to start

We plan to restore her to her former glory, and so we certainly won"t build a race car any more.
