I just ordered a set of strikers from nineapart , fairly reasonable price. They will be the yellow zinc of the impact bumper cars, but reasonable compared to the knock offs and the new ones. A set from an 88 car is almost 20 years newer than my 71s.

Interesting read. I bought the Stoddard ones for my 67 years ago and the shop that was helping me gave them back, they had better luck using good used ones than the new crap. I have a set of 993 ones now, a little time on the mill and happiness will be mine! Thanks for the good info.

A rebuildable striker. Kit's aren't expensive at all. Stoddard et al.

PS: I have driven the 2 smaller interference fit rivets out of one of the original assemblies. (They come out rather easily) The 3rd appears to be a bit more of an issue as it is peened over but it will give up too. Of that I have little doubt but a trip to the machine shop is the key.
I'm considering reproducing the inserts out of something that will look right and last longer than the car. If anyone has a set of donors with intact inserts that I can take measurements from please let me know. I will be taking them apart but am confident that they can be put back together.
If this gets to the point that it makes sense to rebuild them then it may be a service that can be provided "to the faithful".

All I ever wanted was for parts to fit and be made to exacting standards. I'm not a manufacturer but as I tell my friends in the business "Go all the way, or go home". Half ass attempts don't cut it.
Anything ever come of the idea of making the non-rebuildable ones rebuildable?

Probably more trouble than it's worth. You would still have to fabricate the plastic internals. They are different than the rebuildable units.

Just did 2 more sets. Awaiting plating which is always the lengthiest part of the project.

That's bummer. My '73 latch still looks great, gold anodized and all. But the plastic is broken a bit and the door definitely doesn't clunk like the passenger side. Unless the plastic has nothing to do with the solid clunk sound. If not, then maybe I'll just leave it alone.

Can some one tell me what size and type these door striker bolts are? I need to procure the correct socket.

For what it's worth I believe Karmen Ghias used the same part.
