Getting a little confused because there seem to be two overlapping threads on this subject which are running simultaneously. So to add to the confusion, the '67 911S we are working on has the following Kardex info:
VIN# 500254
Ausgel. om 13.3.67
Abnohme-Besh. 14.4.67
Don't know actual registration date but delivered through POAC in Teaneck, NJ
Am interesting anomoly is that I also own '67 912 Targa. The Kardex on that is:
VIN# 550479
Ausgel. om 21.6.67
Abnohme-Besh. 5.7.67
Looks like somebody got there dates backwards. That one was delivered to US serviceman in Germany. Don't know when it came to US
What about the 009 Frank.
Did you get any clarity on it.
No.
Except for 001, 006, and 008 none of the other pre-production Targa's have surfaced.
That I know of.
It was an old thread where 009 was raised.
Got me that it had relevance but not .
010 was imported in 69 to US
To be continued...
It's alive and it's really nice.
Have lots of info about it but need permission
to post.
It rocks your socks off....
Thanks, Tomas -- Here is the story:
I have 500 010, which was assigned to Dr. Ferry Porsche. it was imported in '68 or '69 and was sold to a friend of mine who was in the Army. He was being transferred to Germany and was going to pick up a new '71 Porsche at the Factory and was going to trade it to the Birmingham, AL dealer. I asked "How much are they offering for trade?" He told me and I said "I'll match that!" This was 1970, and 010 was "just another used Porsche."
Enclosed are pictures of the original maintenance book, the Factory letter, including the mistake of addressing it to Alaska, instead of aAlabama, where I lived, and a couple of pictures of it as it is now.
Details: Instruments have the numerals on the glass, rather than behind the dials -- they were made in the VDO Apprentice Shop, per Klaus, at Palo Alto Speedometer.
The rear window cover is attached by snaps, rather than the bayonet-type fittings on later cars.
The interior parts around the base of the roll bar had had too much metal cut away, so small pieces of sheet metal were tack welded to the parts and upholstered.
There are also some holes drilled into the folding top mechanism and rear window bow that were abandoned.
I saw that the maintenance manual said, "Dr. Porsche" and eventually wrote a letter to the Factory, inquiring about it. (See Attached)
