Here's another from the same photographer that John posted in practice before the race:

I noticed an interesting comment regarding this car on a new race car database I've just come across:

Does this mean it still exists? Has anyone seen it?

i have not seen it in person, but have seen lots of photos including ID plates (but we know that they can be remade). it was restored at scuderiaclassica in Italy some years ago maybe one of the italian members will have more detailed information. it was on a thread a few years ago and i think Raj posted a number of photos from the restorers website
from website then
“Factory Prototype R4, White Grand-Prix, race history : 1973 World Sportscar Championship : 1st round : The 24 hours of Daytona, car n°59 driven by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood, result : 1st !!!, back to factory and modified as "Martini" Long Tail Group 5 . 1978 : sold to Italy for 14000$, 1979 : restored and modified as 935 ( twin turbo engine ), 1988 : sold to Sir Pietro-Luigi Di Monteverdi, 2000 : start a total restoration to the original configuration.”
if it is true it is Porsche philosophy in practice: waste not want not
and from Claudio at scuderiaclassica
"
The car returned to the factory at the end of February.
The mission of R4 was accomplished.
Later modified as a "Martini" car.
Sold to Italy.
Sold to William Sala ( Modena ) in 1978.
Restored and upgraded as 935 with twin turbo engine.
Sold in 1988 to Sir Pietro-Luigi Di Monteverdi ( Milano / Italy ), still present owner.

Here's a pic of the orange Tech Inspection sticker on the left fender near the headlight (this is Buffum's Mk II Escort). You can just make it out - "INSPECTED / 24 HOURS OF DAYTONA / 1973"
I wonder why they moved the left side car number to the center of the door, rather than the usual Brumos location in front of the rear wheel well. The sister car used the traditional location, maybe to tell them apart.
You can really see the deflection in the hood at speed on the banking. Also, look at the sister car in the pic above that appears to have a production hood (no deflection):

Thanks Curt. Ron and I were looking last night, trying to figure out what that inspection decal said.

Carl,
Thanks for posting the photo show the RSR back at Weissach. Isn't that from the movie 'One For The Road'? I was looking for that last night.
I just noticed something I hadn't seen before. It looks like they already changed out the front spoiler, it is clearly a different part from the one used in the race. It looks like the 'traditional' RS and RSR front spoiler without the center section. The race version has a different shape where the cooler is located.

Way cool John.
Brian,
Yup, I think it's from 'One For The Road'. I always figured that Brumos added the extra chin piece to the normal RSR spoiler (that whole 'Made in Jacksonville' thing) but it looks like the Penske car had one too. Maybe Porsche pulled it off when it got back to Germany so it would look a little more like a stock RSR?
Yeah, I think Carl is right, I'm pertty sure that the Weissach pic was taken after Daytona... and after a major fix/clean up for the boss...Maybe Porsche pulled it off when it got back to Germany so it would look a little more like a stock RSR?
