I have a 69 SWT, and one thing I can say is that its about as enjoyable to drive as any car I've ever owned. Sure its loud, a bit windy, a heck of lot of "German" stuffed into its little solid hellish frame, you walk away interestingly satisfied after a long day of touring. The sound whoosh you get when the targa top is down with the plastic back is about as enjoyable as can be. Get it at highway speeds and its fine, but after about that third hour, you can find noise approaching "intense".
There is an aspect about the SWT has to be what happens to the plastic while its zipped down and "protected" while driving around. Meet the Tonneau Cover.
I recently learned that there are two kinds of Tonneau Cover that came with this car. Why Porsche offered both, I am recently understanding why and become very clear its purpose. There is a longer (from front to back as it may be) version tonneau cover and a shorter version. Both snap on the exterior 911 body identically but differently depending whether you have rear seat delete or rear seat in place. With seats you get the "shorter version" and without you get the "longer version".
I recalled, back in 1984 regarding SWT, there was this civil engineer 911 Coupe owner that mentioned to me that Targa SWTs being dropped out of production. Nobody wanted them in Seattle cause it rained too much anyways. He said that between 1968 and 1970 any SWTs produced in 1969 had to have been special order from Porsche. Glass what more the thing to own.

Fascinating. Never heard of a 'tonneau' being offered/used/available w/ any Targa
Did some digging --- found some pics + post . . .

Did some more looking at pics
Seems to be some confusion between a 'tonneau' . . . and a 'boot'
What I mean by 'boot' is the cover that goes over a stowed convertible top
I've always referred to a 'tonneau' as the cover for an-otherwise-open passenger compartment
Here's a pic of a 'full' tonneau --- covering the front + back seating areas . . . on an my old Roadster
Does anyone have any pics of something similar on any Targa?
