Hi all
My 1970 911 has a wood trim dash that the original owner tells me was an option thru the dealer in 1970.
Has anyone seen these? This car was purchased new at the Porsche dealers in Monterey, and by me from the original owner.
Thanks, John

I'm sure someone can provide factory option brochures that will show if wood was available or not. Certainly dealers could sell anything to make a buck. But, I'm going to go out on a limb here (ha, "limb" get it, tree limb) - if there was a factory option available, it would not include a hole for the 911 logo on the glove box door. Instead the logo would be on top of the wood. So, I'm voting for a dealer option and that the prior owner didn't realize there was a difference.
the type of wood used by Porsche was different.

From a recent thread:
In the 70s we had wood (and turned stainless) aftermarket dash fillers available for both 911s and 914s. They were a dealer installed item. I did not see them available through the Porsche ordering system. We caught some flack for selling/installing them (and wood wheels) because it was the era when the interior police didn't want wood splintering upon impact. Didn't sell too many.....but some.

Wood dash in my '74. I believe it was dealer installed. Very nicely made, lots of router action to make the pieces fit well. The wrinkle finish knee bolsters I'm not so sure about... although they are also wood, and fit the wood trim in the outer corners, whereas the normal padded bolsters do not. The vents are inset in the wood whereas the normal '74-on vinyl dash trim stops at the vent.

Yep, this thread also started by the OP of this thread. I don't think the answers are any different this time.
