    Keith,
I definitely agree with you. A few photos of prototype R4, notice the bend, the lid curvature and cowl have to do with the reason a left and right part was needed...

A few with the lid open on prototype R4 (yellow), along with 2 photos of R5 (white), I think the pin on R5 with wire was a quick fix and not the intended way...

This is the right side. I'm not sure there is any difference between right and left side. If there is it's minimal? anyone else?

Those photos are great! Looks like the pivot tabs were angled as well as the 3-bolt foot that attaches to the decklid. Let me think about how to jig up for that; I was going to tab and slot everything for quick assembly, but need to consider the left/right angle...

Definitely minimal. On the other hand, they were apparently assigned different part numbers, so...?

The R parts manual shows a left and right hinge for the rear lid.

Ernie, how'd I miss you site before now?!

This image clearly shows the left/right difference on the pivot tab angle: http://www.pbase.com/911r/image/153583554

I feel like I've got a comfortable grasp on it now; will revise my model accordingly!

After spending some time on your site, I can also appreciate that the hinges seem to vary wildly from one another. I'm noticing different pivot tab designs - some without the U shaped single piece (which is fortunate.) It also appears that the material thickness changed on some of them (I suppose the 1.5mm plate was proving to be too fragile?)

I think I've got the angle correct (printing a pair of hinges right now for verification)
