I have no documentation to support that, but if you cross check the engine number 6630993 to the VIN number it links it to an actual car. The engine was purchased through the dealer in France when it was restored in 1987-88. I have the documents and service record from Sonauto when it was done; its 7 or 8 pages long listing every part etc. I've always considered my car to be a very early RS tribute car done well before it became popular. RS parts were readily available back then; my car also has 7" rear wheels (6/72 dated), 300km speedo, 380mm steering wheel, a plastic tank (but these were delivered on euro S cars like mine), Recaro sport seats, and 18mm sways from an early turbo. All bought at Sonauto! Pretty cool.

My engine also has a 930 oil pump, case savers and a later, larger oil tank from a 3.2 Carrera was used. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting but who cares, I just like driving it.

Unless, as said before, you live in a country like Autralia where you can only get your car registered if you have an engine number.
I am not disagreeing with your point, but i would in case my engine-case explodes still like to drive my car, so i would have no choice but to have it restamped with a number. What other ID could you possibly use other than to re-use the one it had?

You have to remember Porsche didn't thow away stuff either (lots of topics here about old bin items used on later cars) so why trow away my otherwise perfect running T-engine just because the part that contains the number is not-repairable?

Heck no, Stacy didn't take your comment as a diss at all; I was just filling in the blanks to provide info on the car and it's engine.

I think this is a VERY good point that is sometimes overlooked. There ARE places that require some kind of engine number for registration. In this instance a number may be stamped just to satisfy license officials, not to deceive some future buyer. I think I recall some states here in the U.S. used to do that. Probably went away with the D.O.T. and importance of V.I.N.'s and exact date of manufacture.

After reading this whole thread, I think that this seems to be the general consensus.

Who gives a Rat's pahtooty if a car has a replacement case? The marketplace doesn't. Million dollar cars have been sold with them at no discount to similar cars with the original case. As stated clearly here by knowing individuals its all about authenticity verified through documentation.
