    Question Martini Racing color scheme

    Dear all,

I am looking for the color code of the Martini Racing sponsor scheme applied on Porsche (2.8 RSR, 936 etc.).

Thanks Chuck, put me on the spot why don't you!

Hi Xavier, no real definitive answer here I'm afraid, it's a question I've tried researching long and hard for obvious reasons
but never really been able to pin it down.

Like so many aspects of racing Porsche's the paint applied would vary dependent on what they had available, where the
respective team was and who was doing the painting or making the decals, so there are massive variations. Another problem
is that each paint manufacturer have there own idea of what the colours should be,you type in to each respective company's
systems Martini and various options come up that differ from manufacturer to manufacturer but who's to say they are right
or wrong, are they the motorsport colours or from the drinks bottle logos, are they Porsche or Lancia, racing cars or power
boats and of course over time the people who might have known are long gone, and again like so many other instances no
records seem to have been kept.

So you look at the car's themselves and decide what you prefer, but just as a guide here are two factory Porsche's as example
of one end of the spectrum to the other, the famous no 23 917 still in it's original paint, look at the roof, then compare to the
    factory latest offering

I'd go with the 917 roof every time, the modern car's to light and bright for my liking, look more Lancia colours to me!
I've stayed with the darker version for mine.

As for the codes you mention, I'm sure more expert paint people here will have a better idea, stuff there that I'm not at all familiar with.
Hope that's been of some help and all IMHO of course!
    cheers, Mike

The white really makes those colors 'Pop' so easy to think Lancia '037 or Delta. Looks to be the same hue and colors though. The Silver does dull out the stripes. Use a 1/18 dicast model (908/917/RSR) They always get the colors real close if not spot on.

It might help to decipher some of The paint references:

RAL is a color matching system. They print sample books used by manufactures so different materials - paints, dye's, fabrics, etc. can be matched. Similar to the printing/design use of Pantone color reference samples but a industrial system rather than just print ink.

21 Line: that is making reference to the Glasurit paint system (Line 21 and Line 20 were used in the 1970-1980's)

If some comma's were added it might make some sense. (It looks like this was copied from a spread sheet and without the columns the info intent is not clear)

    COLOR, CODE, LINE

WHITE (BASE COLOR), 908, 21 LINE, GRAND PRIX WHITE

None of the colour codes seems to mention the orange. Does anyone have a view or code for the signal orange on the bumper?

I own a factory delivered Grand Prix Weiss 1976 3.0T with Martini livery (a brother of the Herbert von Karajan car) and can certainly agree with the comments from Mike that the darker blue is much nicer than the bright blue. Dick

    Thanks Dick,
Any way you could post pics of your Martini theme ? I now the color might not reflect reality, but it will help a bit.
