The old covered sealed beam units used through '67 have been unobtainable for years, but H4s would have looked closer to original (and probably worked better).

    Dealer Description:

We have for sale a 1969 Porsche 911S sunroof Coupe finished in its original factory color combination Silver Metallic with red leatherette interior. This car was built February 7th 1969. Per the COA the car came very well equipped with the following options; US Equipment, Electric Sunroof, Towing Hook-Rear, Tinted Glass All Around, Antenna, Blaupunkt Radio Frankfurt (US Band), Special Paintwork-Silver Metallic and Michelin Tires. The cars color combination and sunroof aren’t the only thing making it unique, it also marks the last year of the screaming 2.0 S motor as well as the first year of the lengthened wheelbase and front mounted oil cooler.

The owner, a local Newport Beach Porsche collector first acquired the car in January 2013 immediately recognizing the cars unique and rare color combination in addition to the factory sunroof. The following year he commissioned a partial restoration by Ed Palmer of Kundensport in Oxnard, CA. In September 2014 Kundensport commenced the disassembly and the car was stripped and most rust was repaired with fresh metal and re-sparyed in the original factory color, Silver Metallic. During re-assembly at Kundensport rubber seals were replaced, fresh window moldings were installed, the front/rear suspension was refreshed with new bushings, shocks, new headlights, new front turn signal lenses/rear brake light lenses were installed, deep six Fuchs wheels were refinished by Al Reed, the engine was rebuilt and the carpet was replaced as well as the headliner. The trim was re-annodized to match original factory equipment. As many original parts were cleaned/restored and reused while other parts were replaced. Also at this time, the non matching numbers engine (2.2L) was rebuilt to 2.7L spec by Ed Palmer of Kundensport. In excess of $50,000 (invoices included) was spent refreshing the car at Kundensport with more spent over the years maintaining and improving as the owner saw fit. That being said, after a thorough inspection by us we found the car was not up to the standards of our restorations and areas of rust and paint will need to be re-addressed down the road. Therefore, this car is being offered at a very competitive price! This car is in a great driver condition.

The owner is an active member of the Porsche community in and around Orange County for many years with multiple Porsches in his collection. Since purchasing the car in 2013, he has been searching for the original numbers matching engine case. As luck would have it he located the original case in 2017 in the United Kingdom. It was owned by a Mr. David Hall who had purchased it in 2015 from Johan Soderbergh of Autopower in Sweden. It is understood that Mr. Soderbergh had originally himself purchased the case from Germany in 2010 where it had been previously imported from the United States. The current owner was able to purchase the case in 2017 for $20,000 and had it shipped back to the United States. The original case will be included with the purchase of the car. Documentation related to the purchase will also be included with the car.

The owner has continued to improve the car over the years with most recent work being performed by a reputable shop closer to his home in Newport Beach. Most recently a new shifter was installed with new bushings, the sunroof was serviced, oil cooler lines were replaced with stainless steel ones, front seat belts were added, the brake master cylinder was replaced as well as other miscellaneous items. As we have previously stated, the car is a drivers car and is not a Concours level restoration. It can be driven and enjoyed and if the next owner decides to take it to the next level, it has all the ingredients to make it a spectacular restoration (matching engine case, rare color combination and factory sunroof).

The car comes with the COA and owners manual. The documented work that has been performed has been organized into a folder and will be included with the purchase of the car.

This one looks "right" to me. There's a lot of yellow/gold in the color and I've only seen that in an original paint car. This one looks pretty original from the pics, though the dash has been replaced as well as the drivers side mirror, steering wheel, etc. (I'm sure there's other nits to pick, but those stuck out).

NO affiliation, just like the car as I used to own an identical one.
