    Seller's Description:

This 1972 911S has lived a pampered life and remains original. The Road Scholars definition of “original” is not the same as most of the world: our definition means original, unrestored, and well-maintained.

This 72 911S has lived a pampered life and it remains original. Back in 1981 a young man named Richard Griot was looking for a new toy and found this 1972 2.4 911S. He bought it from John Hoyt of Coral Gables, Florida, who was advertising it at the time. Richard loved a clean car and spent countless hours in San Diego rubbing on this 911. His passion for cars eventually led to a career in car care with his company Griots Garage. Griots used this car to test their renowned automotive cleaning supplies and became a rolling advertisement for their products. Featured in almost all of their catalogs, this 911 is as good as they get without ever being restored.

In the mid 1990′s Richard let it go to one of his managers at Griots, Kenji. Richard kept him busy so the car became a fair weather car for cruising around the islands in the Seattle area (limits driving even more!) on nice days. Kenji spent more time on the road and he passed the torch to Mark, the President of Griots. Again the car was used sparingly and more catalog shots were taken, more products tested and more hours of rubbing consumed. Marc called us when he was sending his son to college and asked if we might be interested. We bought it and now his son’s college education should be paid for!

What I love about this car is that it can only be original once! We have had a lot of cars over the years and have found very few 42 year old cars with almost all of their original paint, let alone in this condition. I sold this car 3 1/2 years ago to one of our favorite collectors as a place holder, and just traded back for it. We bought it back two years ago and sold it to another great Porsche collector and we traded to get it back to us again.

The car has clearly been exceptionally well-maintained both cosmetically and mechanically. This 911S has traveled 170,000 miles and the paint is as you’d expect being rubbed on so much by true car lovers, which is to say it’s excellent. This is an opportunity to buy an original paint, documented, 2.4 liter 911S that was a one year only example with the side mounted oil door. The car is priced accordingly to its rarity and offered to the true connoisseur of original Porsches.
    Listed at $245,000...

This 1968 Porsche 911L was the subject of a recent refurbishment performed by Special Edition Inc., better known as the home of Beck Speedsters, Spyders, and 904s. Work over the last 18 months included a bare-metal repaint in correct Polo Red, some minor rust repair with panels from Restoration Designs, and a reupholstered interior. The original engine was replaced in 1991 with a flat-six from a 1969 911T, and the 901 gearbox was rebuilt as part of the refresh. The selling dealer is now offering this car with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, records from new through 1991, receipts from the refurbishment, and a clean Texas title.
The car was stripped to bare metal before a single-stage repaint was performed in the original Polo Red. The seller states that the wheels and center caps are correctly date-coded to the car, and Vredstein tires have been fitted. The original trim items were re-chromed, and stainless trim has been polished. All of the rubber seals are new, and the original tinted glass was preserved.
The original US-spec lighting has been removed in favor of European items front and rear. The original taillights, sugar scoop headlights, and turn signals were retained and will be included in the sale. The original brake calipers have been rebuilt, and new hard and soft brake lines were fitted.
The interior was fitted new carpets, leatherette, and headliner, with two noted alterations from the original specification noted by the CoA. The first and most obvious is a switch to Pepita cloth inserts on the front seats, and the second is the addition of Coco mats. The dash top has been recovered in leatherette, though the dash fascia panel were not refurbished. The metal under the dash pad was not repainted in order to preserve the factory VIN written in wax crayon.
The gauges were also found to be in good condition and were not restored. With the exception of those found on the the turn signal stalk, all of the white lettering and decals in the interior are original. The 5-digit odometer shows just over 12k miles, though the seller believes it has rolled over once.
The original flat-six was replaced in 1991 by German European Imports with the powerplant from a 1969 911T(#6197167). During Special Edition’s refresh, the engine received new fuel lines, heater boxes, and exhaust, as well as rebuilt 40mm triple Webers. The 901 gearbox was rebuilt, and new engine and transmission mounts were also fitted. All of the hardware has been zinc, cad, or black oxide plated, and original components were saved and restored wherever possible.
Several photos of the underside of the car are provided in the gallery below. Per the seller, little rust was found apart from under the sill plates and in the battery box. These areas were cut out and replaced using repair panels from Restoration Design. A few older areas of rust repair were put back to their correct specification and appearance.
Records are available from new until 1991, when the car went to its fourth owner. The fourth owner did not keep records, and as such there is a gap in the records from 1991 until 2014 when the selling dealer’s refurbishment began. The older records are shown in a spreadsheet in the gallery below, and complete records from the refresh are also included.

    Seller's Description:

Up for sale here is an unmolested, unrestored 1971 Porsche 911 S Targa that left the factory the very beautiful color combination Gold metallic Exterior over black interior.

The History of the car goes like that… The first owner purchased the car back in early 71 in San Diego. He drove it for 6 month and than the second owner took over. This Porsche stayed in California and moved from San Diego up to Incline Village right at Lake Tahoe and later to Grass Valley. 2nd owner is a very well known Porsche enthusiast (Long time PCA member). He had the car for a whopping 45 years !!!

The Car: Factory Porsche 911S Targa with the matching numbers engine and MFI still installed. Car runs and drives as it should, and pulls really hard, like you would expect it. The engine fires right up and runs smooth without any issues. Tranny shifts flawless through the 5 gears. The Body is virtually rust free, with no accident damage ever.

The condition: Although the car is un-restored and untouched, it still got some work to it done, that was necessary to preserve the excellent condition…
Starting with the paint… The factory gold metallic paint (8810) was known to fade over the years and so the car received a high quality respray in it’s original color back in the late 90’s. Also the front seats became a little mellow and got a new factory style upholstery. All service and maintenance was performed by well known Porsche mechanics in California. Latest upgrades to mention would be: A redone Targa top to factory specs… A brand new Sachs clutch kit with replacing the main wheel bearing seal (0 miles)… 4 brand new Pirelli Tires with 0 miles (Factory spare still with original unused tire)… Fuel tank was removed, flushed and re-coated inside…

    Good morning,

Ihave had my 911 S stored for too long to repair. Now it needs the best restorer.

    Porsche 911 S 1968

Car registered in the Canary Islands in august 7, 1968. . Original color white. Car air shipped to Madrid. Installed in Porsche Madrid the competition Kit II Part No. 901.100.907.00.

Years 69 y 70 participating in Madrid in several club races; doing well.

Year 1971. Car air shipped to Gran Canaria. Totally revised at Porsche premises in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Installed new standard 911 S camshafts, ignition, clutch and carburetion set-up. The rest of the competition Kit II parts, still in the engine, besides heavy duty suspension, brakes, engine mounts, etc... Car painted yellow. Actual exhaust system installed in the car is the racing exhaust included in the Kit II, modified for street use. Engine never opened.

1975. Modifications. Installed magnesium Minilite wheels, 8" and 10 " x 15". Arch wheels extensions, made in fiberglass, on top of the original fenders. Bolted Kremer RSR frontal. Car painted red.

1981. Car stored working properly. Engine full of clean oil trough carburetors until oil came out by the exhaust.

Actually, the vehicle has only superficial oxide in the underbody of the car and in the interior front part of the trunk. Not one oxide perforation in the whole car. No significant accidents.

    52.000 kilometers. Engine never opened.

"Porsche Parade National Champion 911 S 2.7 Liter Six 5 Speed Sunroof"

It was not the Manhattan Trophy car. That would have been the best of everything there.

Probably won it's class. From a collector standpoint a modified car is tainted and half of ask is more like it.

This photo is of the Manhattan Trophy winning car which has been discussed here. It's a car I had the pleasure of going over in person and represents one of the best I've ever seen.
