    1972 911-S Artcurial Motorcars

    Two engine numbers appear in the photos. 1st one looks right, the second is there with no explanation. Fire the editor.
    I've also never understood after going through all the effort to fully paint a car, a new paint code/vin isn't made up. It's not hard.
    Drive rivets not pop rivets!

    1972 911-S Porsche
    Sold for:$ 180,294 USD

    Italian title
    Chassis no. 9112300701
    Engine Type 911/53, no. 6321103

    - Rare version with wing-mounted oil filler
    - Original engine and colours
    - Superb condition, sold new in Italy

    This car was sold new in February 1972 through an Italian dealership. It was finished in 'Melanzana' (aubergine; code 4040), with upholstery in beige leatherette (code 31), as is specified in a certificate issued by Porsche Italy. The certificate also notes that the car was fitted with optional Koni shock absorbers and that it still has its original engine.
    Its current owner, a Porsche collector from Modena, acquired the car in 2012. It had been very well preserved but had been repainted in white during the 1990s. In order to return it to its original finish, the car was given a full bare-metal respray by the Carrozzeria San Lazzaro in Modena, with the bill amounting to 5490 €. At the same time, the interior was retrimmed by Ferraresi, a workshop in Ferrara, for 8126 €. Finally, the engine was overhauled by the Rennsport garage in Reggio Emilia, for 12,200 €. Thanks to the work carried out by these renowned Italian specialists, this Porsche 2.4-litre 'S' now looks magnificent in its original colours. The file which comes with the car includes photographs of the restoration work, several invoices, an owner's manual ('uso e manutenzione') and a certificate from Porsche Italy.
    This car is particularly interesting in that, as well as having its original colours and 2.4-litre engine, it is a rare version with the oil filler mounted on the rear wing. These are all features which enthusiasts will especially appreciate.

    Dealer Description:

    An exceptional honest example, the last of the early production 911S's. Excellent mechanical condition with a very powerful 2.4-liter engine (producing 190 horsepower), 915 manual 5-speed transmission that shifts perfectly with four-wheel disc braking system. Just completed engine-out service including rebuild transmission, fully tuned and serviced engine with new plugs, points, wires, rebuild mechanical fuel injection pump, all new brakes, refinished Fuch wheels and Pirelli tires.

    Beautiful paint with the original interior finished in the original color combination Black/Black. A Porsche Classic Technical Certificate has been ordered. Solid and rust free with all original floor pans and front suspension. Options include Electric Sliding Sunroof, ''S'' front spoiler, Fuch Alloy Rims, original owner's manual and jack.

    Only 1430 ''911S'' Coupes were built for the 1973 year. The electric sunroof was a special ordered option that was an additional cost of $450 (approximately 10% were special ordered with the electric sunroof option). Truly a rare 911S that is only getting harder to find and increasing in value.

    History

    The 1972–1973 model years consisted of the same models of 911- the entry-level T, the midrange E and the top of the line S. However, all models got a new, larger 2,341 cc (2.341 L; 142.9 cu in) engine. This is universally known as the ''2.4L'' engine, despite its displacement being closer to 2.3 liters- perhaps to emphasize the increase over the 2.2 L. The new power ratings for the T were 130 hp (97 kW), or 140 hp (104 kW) in the U.S., 165 hp (123 kW) for the E and 190 hp (142 kW) for the S.

    Few cars made as permanent a mark in the automobile history in both engineering and design as the Porsche 911 and the 1973 2.4-liter production year is widely considered Porches' best vintage 911. Today, the early model years (1965 to 1973) are considered highly collectible, offering the purest forms of an iconic sports car. Early 911's embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of this the same vintage.

    All early 911's have appreciated tremendously in recent years, with good solid cars seeing especially significant increases in value. The late cars (1972 and 1973), fitted with a 2.4 Liter engines, are very desirable and are generally regarded to be the ultimate development of the original long hood 911. The 911 S was the top-of-the-line of the 911 range (other than the 73 Carrera RS) featuring the most sporty equipment and the most powerful engine.
    Any thoughts on this 911? Thank you.

    Dealer Description:

    CPR Classic is delighted to offer this striking 1970 Porsche 911S Coupe finished in its correct original combination of Burgundy over a black German vinyl interior. Ready for sporting usage, this S delights on a twisting back road and looks the part with its driving lights and Heuer "Rallye Master" timekeeping set.

    This 911S is a completely-numbers-matching example that underwent preparation at CPR Classic in 2012. It sold to a collector in Texas who kept the car for the next eight years. During its Texas ownership, the car was regularly maintained by Moorespeed of Austin, Texas, to ensure it remained in peak running condition. Upon the car's return to CPR in January of 2020, it was evident that Moorespeed's service was outstanding.

    Nicely optioned, this Porsche features both lower fog lights and through-the-horn-grill driving lights that give the car a superb rally-style aesthetic. The car's brightwork is in beautiful shape throughout, and the fit and finish of all exterior components are excellent. The paint presents well, with some patina of enthusiastic driving, but is overall crisp and show-worthy.

    The Texas owner had installed Avon CR6ZZ road-legal vintage racing tires for more grip and a period look. They offer a slightly stiffer ride but look the business. The slightly-lowered suspension maintains compliance for longer drives while being eager to be tossed into corners.

    The 2.2L S engine is an absolute gem, exhibiting the free-revving capability that makes the short-stroke cars magical. It has benefited from frequent exercise and is simply a joy.

    Inside, one's eyes immediately settle on an exceedingly rare set of Heuer stopwatches known as the "Rallye Master" set. The combination of the Heuer "Master Time" and the three-button Heuer "Monte Carlo" timer make up this sought-after pair. The car delivers with the stopwatches, or they can be removed from the vehicle at a price reduction. The seats are in excellent shape. The seat belts are original, with the delivery tags. The dashboard is in exceptional condition, with no cracks or creases, and the knee bolsters show equal signs of careful conservation.

    This 911S is offered as a fully sorted, turn-key example and is ready for its next owner to enjoy for years to come. Competitively priced for immediate sale, don't miss this beautiful early 911S with factory rally-style options!

    - Desirable 2.4 S with Factory Sports Seats, Oil Cooler, and Sunroof
    - Delivered New in California; Finished in Silver Metallic over Black Leather
    - Matching-Numbers Engine and Transaxle per Porsche COA
    - Comprehensive Service and Detailing Recently Performed
    - Accompanied by Books, Tools, Window Sticker, and Records Dating to 1980

    This Silver Metallic 911 S was completed in May 1973, and delivered to Kendon Porsche-Audi in Wilmington, California. Built to US specifications, this Porsche was optioned with an electric sunroof, KONI shock absorbers, auxiliary oil cooler, and desirable sports seats trimmed in black leather. Documentation includes the original window sticker, factory manuals, and records dating back to 1980, noting three prior owners, including one who kept the Porsche for nearly 35 years. The original steering wheel, Sekurit glass, and period Blaupunkt radio remain intact, and the car retains its matching-numbers engine and transaxle per the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

    Repainted in its original Silver Metallic by a previous owner, the 911 S was acquired by the consignor in 2019. During his ownership, the Porsche has benefited from a service and compression test, which recorded 130-135 psi in each cylinder. Additionally, the Fuchs alloy wheels received new Michelin tires, a new muffler was installed, and the car was carefully detailed throughout. With its matching-numbers driveline, attractive original colors, ideal factory options, and recent attention, this 1973 2.4 S is an air-cooled classic worthy of serious consideration.

    * Motorcars from the Oldenburg Family Collection
    * Matching numbers example
    * European, French delivered car
    * Original color combination
    * Extremely rare European-model '68S

    THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

    Delivered through Sonauto, the Paris Porsche distributor, on January 22, 1968, this 911S is reported to have come into Canada in the early 1970s through the French Embassy. Found in a Montréal parking garage after a long period of storage, it was repainted in 1996 in the original Polo Red color, at which time the body seals were replaced. The interior, including soundproofing, black leatherette upholstery and red carpets, is largely original.

    The 911S was sold to the Oldenburg Family at our 2008 Quail Lodge Auction, direct from its former Canadian ownership. Following its acquisition, it was treated to a complete in-house rebuild of the original engine by a Porsche factory master technician, with receipts on file to the tune of approximately $30,000, this work including new connecting rods and carburetor rebuild. In more recently times the muffler was replaced, and the Fuchs alloys reshod with new tires a couple of years ago.

    On file are an original period tool kit, owners' manual, jack components and an extensive documentation binder which includes Certificate of Authenticity confirming that its engine matches its original delivery, together with previous appraisals, period literature and advertisements (many from Sonauto) and other documents including some service records. It should be noted that the gearbox is a period replacement unit.

    The Oldenburgs have enjoyed the car immensely and they describe it as a very good roadgoing/driver quality example, which they have maintained properly and used carefully. An extremely rare model to find in America, this is a well-documented and appealing 'S' model.
