    Scott,
You are not "my bad". When I'm posting a car, I usually do a search on the VIN to see if it pops up on previous threads.
I'm not sure which is the proper classification for the 'L' in the ESR for sale area. I always thought the 'L' was a USA only model since the 1968 'S' was not imported into the US. So in my mind I classified the 'L' as a 'S' without the 'S' engine for the US market. Only recently did I realize the 'L' was sold in the ROW too. So that threw my '68 model theory out the window. 1968 was quite the mixed up model year; 'T', 'Normal', 'L', and 'S'.

Now being offered for sale is a 1968 Porsche 911S Targa Vin #11850389. The current original mileage is 71058 Km. This car is one of only 442 911S Targas produced in 1968. Porsche did not export the 911S to the US due to smog requirements so production was limited. That makes this car a very rare and a great addition to any collection. The car is “numbers matching” per the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA) issued by Porsche Cars of North America. The current owner is the 3rd owner and has had the car since 1996. The car has undergone a complete restoration over the last 3 years and is in excellent condition both inside and out. The restoration goal was to maintain as much originality as possible so as to maintain its 1968 heritage.

The exterior was completely stripped to metal and repainted in its original rare color of metallic dark green #62109. It was professionally painted using PPG waterborne 2 stage paint. New rubber was installed during reassembly. The front trunk, engine bay and wheel wells were coated with rust inhibitor black paint. The targa top was reupholstered using the original correct smooth material. It has the original headlights and rear taillights that are in very good condition. The car also has a very rare rear stainless steel apron that was only used on euro cars.

The engine was completely rebuilt by RennTech of Auburn, Calif. The following was accomplished. The case was sent out to Ollie’s for reconditioning. The original cylinders were nickasiled and rebored at 80 mm. The original “S” pistons were cleaned and new rings were installed. New bearings and seals were installed. The heads were machined and new valves and seals were installed. The original weber carbs were reconditioned by Partsklassik. The exhaust system was ceramic coated by Advanced Performance Coatings and all the tin and air cleaners were powder coated. The transmission was rebuilt and the 1st and 2nd gear synros were replaced. A new clutch kit was installed and all shifter bushings were replaced.

The car has original 5.5 X 15 fuchs with new Michelin MXV4 tires, including the spare. The ride height has been set to Euro specs. The brake system was reconditioned which included rebuilt calipers, new pads and new lines. The ignition, starter and alternator were also rebuilt.

The interior had the front seats reupholstered with top grain soft leather. The rear seats and rear shelf were also reupholstered. The car has the original door panels and pockets which are in excellent condition. A brand new dash from Aase Sales was installed. The original euro gauges were reconditioned by Commercial Speedometer Service Inc. and work like new. New Loyd Luxe floor mats have been installed. A new Alpine stereo system has been installed and sounds great. The car does come with the original radio in its case but has not been rebuilt. It has the original Webasto gas heater.

The car comes with the original owner’s manual, jack, Porsche COA and paperwork dating back to the 1970’s which includes records for the recent restoration. The sale will also include a flash drive with pictures detailing the restoration. The car runs and drives just like you would expect a 911S to run. This is a very original example of a rare 1968 911S Targa for the discerning collector.

The auction houses have to get their estimates a little closer. I know they do it to get the consignment but they come off looking stupid.

    Auction Description:

Recipient of a well applied older restoration it remains in lovely condition today. The finish only shows minor blemishes, proving this was a gently used car. The brown leatherette interior shows only slight wear whiles sporting its authentic interior components. This 911 is mechanically well sorted and ready to be enjoyed touring and in vintage rallies. As a solid driver or an investment piece, this Porsche brings back a nostalgic feeling for a line of sports cars whose history is just as important as their modern-day achievements.

    Auction Description:

    *Matching numbers example
*Final year of the "Long-hood" 911
    *Factory air conditioning and sunroof
    *Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
    *Comprehensive documentation from new

This beautiful 911S coupe presents much more than meets the eye. Sold new in California and passing through the hands of several enthusiast owners over the years, 300301 was extremely well-equipped from the outset and has been properly maintained throughout its life. It has enjoyed several important upgrades, including an engine enlargement to 2.7 liter displacement, which along with its Bosch mechanical fuel injection, yields an output roughly equal to that of a 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, about 210 bhp. With those additional horses and weighing less than 2400 lbs, this 911S offers comparable performance.

Originally sold by the Mozart dealership in Palo Alto, near the Bay area, this very handsome 911S left the factory in October of 1972, wearing Light Ivory paint over a full Dark Brown leather interior. It was factory equipped with an electric sunroof, air conditioning, an auxiliary oil cooler, tinted glass, a radio installation package, clear fog lights, and Michelin tires on forged Fuchs alloy wheels, all of which drove the retail price to $12,164, a substantial increase over the base price of about $9500. It was delivered to its first lessee owner, Mr. John Keane of Mill Valley, on February 20, 1973. A comprehensive folio of registration, insurance, and maintenance records show that it was sold in 1982 to Mr. Kopel Sandler of Menlo Park, California, who had Garretson Engineering in Mountain View rebuild the motor to 2.7 specifications in February 1988. At that time the car had been driven 113,000 miles. It was subsequently sold to Mrs. Rosa Sandler of Newton, Massachusetts. In 1990, after being stored for several years, the car returned to the West coast and the ownership of Mr. Maurice Eckley of Scotts Valley. The odometer then read 117,888 miles. In December, 1993, the car was sold to Mr. Mark Fisher of Portland, Oregon, then the President of the local Porsche Club of America region. The engine was again rebuilt and the car resprayed during his ownership. The following year, health issues forced its sale to some close friends, in whose care it has remained to the present day. It has been driven a total of 142,330 miles at the time of cataloguing.

Offered in its original color scheme and in what the consignor says is excellent running condition, this is a beautiful and very quick example of the last of Porsche's long-hood "F"-series 911s, loaded with desirable options. It is fitted with a Momo leather-wrapped sports steering wheel (the original is included) and a stainless steel muffler. Having recently undergone a thorough detailing and service, this very desirable 1973 911S is supplied with its correct spare, tool roll, jack, manuals, and supporting documentation from new, including its original window sticker, manuals, warranty book, even notations of fuel purchases. A factory-issued Certificate of Authenticity is included, as well as a cover and protective bra.
