    The 1973 Porsche 911S is currently for sale at our shop. It was originally delivered to a buyer in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in February 1973, in the vibrant color of Viper Green (Emerald/Kelly Green), with black interior, per the C.O.A. In 2004, the car was imported into the U.S. by a recognized Porsche collector in Connecticut. At the time, the original engine was fully rebuilt to 2.7 RS specifications by well known East Coast engine builder, Rick Cabell. This 911S was then acquired by it’s current owner in 2009, with just over 56,000 original miles on the odometer. All Numbers are Matching.

    Now with just over 64,000 miles, the car has had one sympathetic re-spray of it’s original Viper Green, as well as a refreshing of the underside of the car.

    This is correct, we have the car consigned to us by the same owner.
    The car is really really nice...! Needs absolutely nothing.
    This current owner purchased the car from the same guy who owned the Steve McQueen car.

    This 911 S was completed in May 1973, handsomely finished in black over beige leatherette upholstery and equipped with tinted glass and Michelin tires. It was delivered to its first owner in Italy, according to its accompanying Porsche Certificate of Origin. Details of early ownership are sparse, but it is clear that the 911 S was exported to the US and owned by Joseph Courtney of Connecticut prior to 2013.

    In 2014, he commissioned marque specialists Musante Motorsports of South Windsor, Connecticut, to perform a complete, show-quality restoration. An album of detailed restoration photographs leaves no doubt as to the level of time, expertise, and money expended on returning this Porsche to its factory-correct condition.

    The car was fully dismantled; the chassis and suspension were stripped; the brakes, hubs, trim, and electrical components were restored; and an array of elements on the car were examined, repaired, or replaced with OEM parts, as needed. The body was stripped, primed, and refinished in the original special-order black finish, and then carefully reassembled, paying meticulous attention to panel fit.

    The interior was trimmed in the correct beige leatherette material, and the wheels and outside trim were refinished to ensure a bright and polished presentation. The original 2.4-liter engine was rebuilt and detailed to show standards. Today, under new ownership, the car remains in superb condition in all respects and is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Origin, owner’s manual, and tool kit.

    This meticulously restored 1973 911 S is an excellent candidate for a variety of concours, PCA events, and organized tours. Its stunning original color scheme and desirable Italian-delivery specification set this car apart from other early 911 models. Given its impressive presentation and reputation as the most refined early 911 model, this 1973 S is worthy of serious consideration.

    Auction Description:

    According to its accompanying Certificate of Authenticity this, left-hand drive, matching numbers, '67 911 S left the factory in October 1966 finished in Polo Red and was destined for the European market. The Certificate also states that this car was ordered with various desirable factory options including Recaro sports seats and very rare limited slip differential and drive shafts. Subsequently, the car was exported to the US where it was to remain until 2017. According to the car's History File, in 2005 it underwent a full restoration by The Vintage Motorcar Company in Atlanta, Georgia in its original colours to a 'Concours' standard and as a result, enjoyed much success on the Concours circuit.

    The next owner was presumably interested in the 911's 1960s sporting pedigree and may even have been a fan of London-born rally driver, Vic Elford. "Quick Vic" was uniquely versatile and in an amazing five-month period during 1968 he won the Monte Carlo Rally, nine days later won the Daytona 24 hours in a Porsche 907 'Long-Tail', 13 weeks later won the tortuous Targo Florio after spending a solid 5 hours in his 907, and 9 weeks after that finished a remarkable 4th in a very wet French Grand Prix at Rouen in a works Cooper, his first drive in a Grand Prix car! However, it must have been the Monte Carlo Rally that really impressed our 911's new owner and having seen the many images of the rally's end when Vic and co-driver David Stone brought their tired and battered, Polo Red, 911 home to be heralded the clear winner, he decided that #306301S should be transformed into an homage to the Elford car.

    He then commissioned marque specialists 'Paterek Brothers' to replicate the rally car's looks and this they did complete with driving lights, rally timer, passenger map light, rear wiper and other period correct details. The original engine was rebuilt by Autohaus of Chatham in New Jersey at the same time. Once the impressive job was finished, Vic Elford himself proclaimed it " A spectacular, exact nut and bolt re-creation, exactly how we drove it".

    Now offered for sale by our UK-based private owner and supplied with a superb comprehensive history file and a selection of tools. The car is offered with a set of original sports seats and Fuch alloys should the new owner wish to return the car to standard S specification. Silverstone Auctions are proud to offer this special and interesting 911. This rare, SWB 1967 'S' offers a unique combination of both originality and motorsport character and could be easily returned to its original road-going form or, ideally in our opinion, enjoyed in its current, iconic guise as a tribute to one of motorsport's greats.

    Auction Description:

    The 1973 911 S Targa offered here is a European-delivery model, though now with a properly set-up MFI system that was originally finished in a distinctive Gemini Blue metallic paint over a black interior. Its original owner took delivery in Europe but imported it to Jacksonville, Florida, where he kept it until June 2001. A subsequent owner in 2007 commissioned an extensive restoration by specialists on the West Coast costing more than $80,000. Its original 2.4-liter engine and transmission were rebuilt by Haus of Performance and Ray Stevens. The 911 S Targa’s body was stripped to bare metal, repaired where necessary, and repainted in Gemini Blue. Restored Fuchs wheels completed by Al Reed Specialty Polishing in California are wrapped by period-style Pirelli tires.

    Its only visual modification comes inside, where a pair of period-correct sports seats wrapped in houndstooth upholstery supplied by Autos International replace the comparatively sedate factory 911 S units. The crack-free dashboard features a correct speaker grille as well as a radio blank plate, just as how it would have left Zuffenhausen more than 45 years ago. Its condition shows limited, gentle use since its restoration was completed.

    This 911 S Targa will be delivered to its new owner with a large file documenting its restoration as well as a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

    This Porsche 911 S was delivered in 1967, the first year of production for the top-of-the-range model, on 3 April via VW Pacific of Culver City in Los Angeles to Dr. Juan Araujo and would remain in the Golden State for over 40 years. Its next documented owner was Peter Triolo of Modesto. He purchased the car in October of 1997, selling in August 2011 to Mike Miller. Exported to Germany in 2014, it was purchased by the current owner one year later. Highly original throughout, it still retains its original engine and gearbox, as confirmed by accompanying documentation from Porsche, in addition to sealed original floor panels. Stampings on fenders, doors and motor lid all bear the last three digits of the chassis number.

    Furthermore, the 911 S comes with an original sales brochure, service manual, jack and tool bag. The front seats have been refurbished, retaining the original black vinyl, while the back seats are original and preserved. The engine, gearbox and suspension were overhauled in 2017, with the engine producing at 161 ps on the dyno. Finally, the car boasts a new coat of its original ‘Blutorange’ paintwork.

    With its long-term Californian history, rare colour and stunning condition, this short-wheelbase 911 S is one of the most intact and correct Porsche cars currently offered for sale.
