Thread: 911S/911L Cars for Sale

The green met. 73S British car looks good until you get to the paint tag, and I agree with you on the fonts of the last two 2s looks fishy to me also, so in my opinion it's unfortunately for the seller the last two digits were the same number and fortunately for any perspective buyer they were the same number, especially when compared to the deuce on the RS.

I don't have an axe to grind; just asking a question. I even state the possibility that what caught my eye is an artefact of photo rather than the vin stamp itself. Maybe the owner/seller would help their sale prospects if they have a more clear picture than the one they chose to show of the car's vin on their for sale listing because it looks like a nice car and seems to have a documented history.

I get you.....I’m just having fun with your words which I enjoyed .....“all pukka”

These cars are so old now, who really knows what’s what. I looked at the documentation posted with the other green 72 at BHCC and it shows front body work and the MFI pump was replaced in the mid ‘80s so not only is the whole MFI system missing, both the original and replacement pumps are missing. Make one wonder about the status of the cams, Ps and Cs etc. Plan on an additional $20k to get the motor right. That being said, I still like that car.....drool. On another topic, what’s up with BOREXIT!!!!????

    Hi Doug,
all these "grafittis" are the original signatures by the P legends: Harald Wagner, Hans Mezger, Valentin Schaeffer, Juergen Barth and from the man who reassembled that piece of history. Walter Roehl is always signung on the outside the gas filler lids....how nice on a musum qualtity car... By the way: take gas and rub these Sharpie graffitttis off, done..

    Price: £175,000/~US$231,500

    Dealer Description:

    - build date: 15 June 1973
    - one of the last 2.4 911S ever made
    -striking original Metallic Green colour
    - fully restored from bare metal in Germany in 2017
    - numbers matching engine

This Porsche 1973 911S 2.4 was sold in June 1973 through Porsche Italy. It spent most of its life in Germany with a single owner from the 1980s through to 2009. It was then purchased by a German collector who ran the car for several years before commissioning a complete restoration in 2015.

The bodywork was completed by Giuseppe Bongiorno and the engine and gearbox were rebuilt by SHK Racetec, both located close to Frankfurt. There is a detailed photographic record of the work that was completed, showing the car to have been extremely original and solid before the work was started. This is consistent with the cost of the restoration, which is supported by bills on file for over €80,000. The work was completed in 2017 and the car had only shakedown mileage put on it before it was sold to its current owner in 2018 and imported into the UK.

Since then the car has been maintained by well-respected early Porsche specialists, Historika, and has been driven less than 1,000 kilometres. It is well set-up and drives just as it should.

So easy to do this correctly. I'm always astonished at the lack of attention to detail in some of these "big money" cars. The gas tank looks like Fido's rear end.

1967 was the first year Porsche released the highest performing version of the original short wheelbase 911. According to a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and Kardex, this particular 911S left the Porsche factory in May 1967. Delivered through selling dealer Autogerma of Bologna Italy to first owner and resident, Luigi Biuagli, this 911S was produced for the Italian market and optioned with only a Webasto gas to escape punitive taxes that might have been due if the retail price exceeded a certain threshold set by the Italian tax authorities. After one additional Italian owner, the 911S was imported into the United States in 1985 and subsequently passed through two more ownerships before being purchased by current enthusiast custodianship. In January 2014 a comprehensive circa three-year restoration of the 911S was commissioned. Mechanical and suspension work was entrusted to Tony and Marco Gerace of TLG Auto, marque specialists in North Hollywood, California who rebuilt the 911’s 2.0-liter flat-six engine and refreshed the original Type 901 5-speed gearbox. Well-regarded Esposito Porsche Repair, also of North Hollywood, meticulously disassembled the car which was found to be very original with date-coded gas tank and gauges while fenders, trunk and engine lid bear were stamped with the last three digits of the chassis number. Testifying to the quality of the restoration, this car was exhibited at the June 2018 Rodeo Drive Concours in Beverly Hills and won both its class and division at the September 2018 Porsche Club of America Zone 8 Los Angeles Concours held at the Petersen Museum. In October 2018, this car was chosen to participate in a special commercial commissioned by Porsche to commemorate its 70th anniversary which premiered at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018. Currently located in the LA area.

    Auction Description:

    PROVENANCE
    - Mr. Fleck, Langenfeld, Germany (acquired new via Mahag Porsche in 1967)
    - Private Owner, Alabama
    - Gary Kempton, Crawfordville, Florida (acquired from the above)
    - Johnathan Lee, Atlanta, Georgia (acquired from the above in 1991)
    - Current Owner

According to its Kardex, this 1967 911 S was delivered new to Mahag Porsche in Munich outfitted in Polo Red with rare sports seats with Pepita inserts, a Webasto heater, Dunlop tires, antenna and loudspeaker, sun visor mirror, and halogen headlights. Its first owner was Mr. Fleck in Langenfeld, Germany. Gary Kempton of GK Restorations in Crawfordville, Florida, later bought the car, and then in 1991, it was sold to Jonathan Lee of Atlanta. Lee and Kempton would strike up a friendship, and they agreed that Kempton would completely restore the 911 S to as-delivered specification. The fastidious work included the use of original and NOS parts, with the goal of creating a 911 of uncommon authenticity. The original engine and transaxle are retained and were completely rebuilt, as were all ancillary components. The body was stripped and treated to a new coat of Polo Red, and the interior was re-trimmed with Pepita inserts in the original sport seats. Due to periods of inactivity, the restoration process took 10 years, but the results, which are chronicled by a letter and other documents in the car’s file, were well worth the wait.

Having traveled approximately 6,000 miles since its completion in 2001, the 911 S has continued to receive fastidious care, while being enjoyed as intended. It is accompanied by a file of invoices, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Kardex, owner’s manual, tool kit, and jack, and stands tall among the finest examples of its type.

    Dealer Description:

An exceptional honest example, the last of the early production 911S's. Excellent mechanical condition with a very powerful 2.4-liter engine (producing 190 horsepower), 915 manual 5-speed transmission that shifts perfectly with four-wheel disc braking system. Just completed engine-out service including rebuild transmission, fully tuned and serviced engine with new plugs, points, wires, rebuild mechanical fuel injection pump, all new brakes, refinished Fuch wheels and Pirelli tires.

Beautiful paint with the original interior finished in the original color combination Black/Black. A Porsche Classic Technical Certificate has been ordered. Solid and rust free with all original floor pans and front suspension. Options include Electric Sliding Sunroof, ''S'' front spoiler, Fuch Alloy Rims, original owner's manual and jack.

Only 1430 ''911S'' Coupes were built for the 1973 year. The electric sunroof was a special ordered option that was an additional cost of $450 (approximately 10% were special ordered with the electric sunroof option). Truly a rare 911S that is only getting harder to find and increasing in value.

    History

The 1972–1973 model years consisted of the same models of 911- the entry-level T, the midrange E and the top of the line S. However, all models got a new, larger 2,341 cc (2.341 L; 142.9 cu in) engine. This is universally known as the ''2.4L'' engine, despite its displacement being closer to 2.3 liters- perhaps to emphasize the increase over the 2.2 L. The new power ratings for the T were 130 hp (97 kW), or 140 hp (104 kW) in the U.S., 165 hp (123 kW) for the E and 190 hp (142 kW) for the S.

Few cars made as permanent a mark in the automobile history in both engineering and design as the Porsche 911 and the 1973 2.4-liter production year is widely considered Porches' best vintage 911. Today, the early model years (1965 to 1973) are considered highly collectible, offering the purest forms of an iconic sports car. Early 911's embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of this the same vintage.

All early 911's have appreciated tremendously in recent years, with good solid cars seeing especially significant increases in value. The late cars (1972 and 1973), fitted with a 2.4 Liter engines, are very desirable and are generally regarded to be the ultimate development of the original long hood 911. The 911 S was the top-of-the-line of the 911 range (other than the 73 Carrera RS) featuring the most sporty equipment and the most powerful engine.
