Please excuse my ignorance, but what's a Car Fox radio. Is that why it has no antenna? I also note a stainless steel end plate/cap on the front bumper. Thought this was MY69 and onward. Legit for a '68? If so, might add them to my '68 912 coupe.
The original German was "Als einziges Extra ist das Auto Fox Radio werksseitig geliefert worden." Google translates that as "As the only extra, the car Fox Radio has been delivered at the factory." Maybe "Auto Fox" would be better--maybe not. Volkswagen offered "Fox" radios; I'm not sure how long ago they started making those.
As to why the car has a radio and no antenna...
I've seen some VW buses at auction with radios and no antenna. Radio block-off plates are hard to find. Maybe the bus folks didn't want to drill the front of the bus for the antenna.
For old Porsches, radio block-off plates can also be a challenge and good antennas are very, very rare and expensive. There's an NOS red tip antenna for sale at the 356 Registry for € 2,250.
Long Ranger pointed out that this car doesn't have H1 headlights. Those lights are the tungsten non-sealed beams that were standard up through 1968 (1969 for 912s) but were replaced with H1s on the 911S starting with coupe # 11800226 (from PET). Two Italian language letters in the pictures give this car's number: 11801221.
This was not a spare-no-expense restoration.

This striking, tangerine 911S optioned with sport seats and a 5-speed transmission was completed at the Porsche factory in April of 1972. It would quickly make it way to the US and was purchased soon after on May 19th 1972. The first owner, Earnest McGill of Lincoln NE, is documented in the original Porsche Maintenance Record book. Dealer maintenance stamps go all the way from new to April 1980 at 43,117 miles.
The car would go through a series of collectors over the years, with one that would own the car twice. During his first ownership in 1990 he would have 901 Shop in Pompano Beach, Florida do a complete mechanical restoration on the very original car that included rebuilding the engine, transmission, shocks, brakes, steering, and the installation of a limited slip differential. During his second ownership in 2007 he would have the engine dynoed, and it would top out at an impressive 185hp and 154 lb/ft of torque at the wheels.
Most recently the car was maintained at Willhoit Restoration in Long Beach, CA. There the 911S would be serviced and receive a new muffler, battery, and have the CDI box rebuilt.
This is an excellent example of a preservation class 911S. Unmolested, never damaged, and with no corrosion, this car has only received restoration as it was needed, and that work was done to an extremely high standard. Evidence, research, and vehicle condition indicates that the mileage of 87,810 is accurate. This 911S in tantalizing Tangerine and riding on rare 7 inch Fuchs wheels would make an exceptional addition to any collection. Ready to drive or to show, you can't go wrong with one of Porsche's finest road cars, the 911S 2.4.

Auction Description:
- 1 of 483 Targas produced in the first year of availability
- Porsche COA
- Corresponding Porsche Kardex document provided by LeMans winning Porsche racer and marque expert Jurgen Barth
- Original owner is recorded on the Kardex as US Rally Champion John Buffum
This Porsche 911S Soft Window Targa is a very exclusive first year example that also features the Weber carbureted 2.0 liter 160 HP flat six that characterized the S Model along with Koni front struts, ventilated disc brakes and Fuchs wheels.
Weighing a feathery 2,272 pounds, the 911S was, and is, a brilliant performer that substantially elevated Porsche’s already stellar reputation. Porsche only produced 483 Targas in 1967 and switched to a full glass backlight in 1968, a fact that adds to this car’s exclusivity.
Documented with a Kardex provided by LeMans winning Porsche racer and marque expert Jurgen Barth, the car was built on March 1, 1967 and delivered new through Porsche North America to New Englander John Buffum, who was then on the cusp of a great rallying career that would inclucde 11 national titles and 117 national wins.
Classic Showcase, a highly accomplished European Marque specialist in Oceanside, CA, completed the comprehensive and thoroughly documented nut and bolt restoration around 2011, refinishing it in Polo Red, the original color, with black leatherette upholstery.
This outstanding Porsche is an authenticated example of a great vintage 911S Targa, and with its Porsche COA, is perfectly suited to every type of automotive recreations from track events to rallies and weekend cruising.
