    MFI pump upgrade

    I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade a 2.4 L 911 E pump 0408 126 014 ( PED 6KL 60/120 R3Z) to use it on a 2.3 twin plug engine to be installed on a 2.3 ST replica.
if so, what is necessary to be done ( change the 3D cam, change the regulator- currently EP/RLA 1/42R) or would it be better to use a 2.4 S pump which have increased delivery voumes in cm3/1000H .

thank you in advance for your expertise in this matter.

    Cheers,
    JD

The 2.4 E (014) pump could be modified for the 2.3 twin plug engine but would not have a good & consistent air/fuel ratio from idle to WOT without modifying or changing the space cam. The 2.4 S (013) or (021) would require less adjustments to work with the 2.3 twin plug engine. The best pump for a 2.3 twin plug engine would be a 2.2 S (009) or (011) pump. The (009) & (011) already have the space cam shaped for the most fuel delivery at 7000 RPM compared to the 2.4 pumps at 6000 RPM. Of course your engine specs are a very important part of the pump tuning procedure.

    Hi Mark,

thanks for your advice; regarding engine specs , it's a High compression (10,3:1) engine with 906 center lubed cams, titanium conrods, lightweight flywheel , small (225) fan.....
    I'm expecting around 230/240 hp.

Well the 2.2 S pump is still the best one to start with. With the 906 cams you'll be seeing 8000 RPM so the 2.2 S pump will have to be modified a little, like lightening the governor flyweights so the space cam isn't forced to the very end of travel and possibly a small amount of space cam modifying to get the correct amount of fuel @ 7000 to 8000 RPM. With the 906 cams your peak torque won't come in till around 6000 RPM I think. Great little engine!

    Hi Mark,

would you recommand somebody who has the skills to modify and calibrate the pump in order to match the engine specs ( lighten the governor flyweights & modify the space cam).
do you have an idea of a possible cost for a complete MFI 2.2S pump modified as such.

    thanks,
    JD

The closest Bosch MFI pump service for you would be "Koller & Schwemmer" Nurnberg Germany phone # 0911-36103-0. Here in the US we have "Pacific Fuel Injection" in So. San Francisco, Gus Pfister, phone # 650-588-8880 Gus is a wealth of information and has been rebuilding MFI pumps for over 40 years. In Redding California there is "Fairchild Industries" Robert Fairchild owner and his phone # 530-241-1592. There is another Bosch MFI Pump Service on the East Coast of the US but I forget their name. I also rebuild MFI pumps "MFI Werks" Seal Rock, Oregon, phone # 541-563-3702, I have been rebuilding MFI pumps for about 5 years now and really enjoy it.

That's because Mark has class and is a humble guy. I've never met him or done business with him, but I've heard very good things about his work.

Fairchild? Not if you paid me.
