    Engine Sale Advice

    Hi All

I hope this is the right forum for this purpose. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following query...

I have a 68S engine complete from correct webbers to heat exchangers. I was going to keep it for a race car, but consider it may be better offered up to someone needing a correct 'one-year-only engine' for a resto etc... My question relates to whether I offer it rebuilt and restored or in its current shape which is the ubiquitous "It was running when I pulled it from the car" condition. What is more attractive to a buyer, "as is" or rebuilt and ready to bolt in? What is more advantageous to me as a seller? I can have the engine rebuilt by a well known builder over here in Australia, but am conscious that a buyer may be in the US or Europe and any warranty on offer would be useless.

    Thanks for any opinions offered...

    Hi,

I would let the choice for the futur owner to choose how and were the engine will be rebuilt. Original specs, or small improvements, brands of p&c he wants...

IMHO, all used engines are to be considered as cores for a proper rebuild, unless you can make the proof it is still in useable condition. And this may tricky to proof, bearings shapes, cleanlyness of the oil circuit, leaks...

    Just my 0.02!

    Hi Olivier

Thanks, that's the way I was leaning also. Better for the new owner to be fully involved in the rebuild.

    Cheers

    John,

you're welcome, but take it for what it's worth, as I have no experience with this kind of matter... But, If I was about to buy an engine, this is the way i'd like to do this.
