    Exactly!

How interesting, I just posted to this thread about the AMAG number of a forum member's car. You should check out this thread and apply for the Wagenkarte for your '70S.

Here is an old thread that shows the metal plate on several other cars. My RS doesn't have the metal plate, but instead has a small decal in the trunk.

Very, very interesting and much thanks for pointing this out. I'm absolutely going to try to get the Wagenkarte.

Congrats! I think I posted the ad for that car in response to your "bad cars" thread, right? It looked nice!

    You did indeed, sir.

It had actually been discussed here before. Originally by Froggy in THIS POSTING.

The car was quickly dismissed as a scam (by me as well). When I came back to the car, I did some research and started to reconsider. I decided the only way to know for sure was to jump on a plane.

Long story short, the seller is a very good guy who got crossed up with a very bad guy - unknowingly and with only good intentions - and his reputation is taking a hit unfairly. I really believe that's the only reason I got the car. I looked at just about everything on the market and this was the best car I saw by a good measure. It should have sold long ago.

I LOVE this story BTW. While everybody is dinging and posting opinions, you hop on a plane and buy the car. Nice !!!!

In around 1971, AMAG changed from metal plate in the engine area to an orange decal, located in the front trunk
(often placed on the shocks tower). However, while the early metal plate was almost always left on cars, later decals often got lost. For the records, here is the AMAG "Laufnummer" decal that replaced the earlier metal tags.

Agreed. Hard to do any better than that color and a 70S. (Yes, I am biased about 70S's)

    Congrats!
