Other than Don Ahearn's magnificent white 911 R "prototype he brought to RR IV and which was posted in the "Porsche Picture of the Day" back in '11, the above seats are only the second time I have seen Elephant hide seating surfaces. Any more information available on that detail ?? Were those seats in that material a factory option ??

    Thumbs up

    David,

Just got off the phone with Davey and he said that that’s reported to be the car that he drove one time for the SCCA runoffs at Daytona in Nov. of ’67. He said that the car was a onetime deal directly from the factory to Vasek to Daytona. He also said the car ran better right out of the box than Vasek’s ‘silver’ 911S (that started life as light ivory) that Davey was racing all year.
Davey also said the car was geared too short for Daytona and Vasek wouldn’t change it out… So, Davey lost to Alan Johnson in the higher geared, Roger Bursch prepped 911S.

Stand by for a Dave Conklin Excellence article on this one……

It's a VERY nice car. Great paint, the elephant hide interior is distinctive. Just to show that not all nice cars aren't in California.

What a fantastic car! Thanks for the back story, Chuck - always makes what you are looking at that more rich. I was think the same thing about those seats too, John. I love those to begin with, but the elephant hide takes them over the top.

I assume the car has been restored, no? What is its history after that one Daytona race?
