June 1 -- Friends of Steve McQueen

The annual Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show, benefiting Boys Republic, is scheduled for this coming Saturday June 1, 2012 from 8-3. Admission is only $10.

This little show is a real gem -- in large part because Boys Republic has been giving at-risk youngsers a second chance at success in life since 1907. One of them was Steve McQueen.

My pals Kerry Morse and Bruce Canepa have committed their support for the race car class again this year. The shot below is of the 2012 trophies. We got quite a crowd when we fired-up the mighty 917...

    See you there.

    Steve McQueen '13 . . .

    We went

Got up at a decent hour, had some breakfast, showered --- no rushing . . . left Simi ~8:30 AM? Had a happy passenger to start the day

Covered the 70 miles/hazy weather/light traffic in about an hour. We took freeways most of the way, then I took us down residential street, for the last few miles --- to get a look at the neighborhood, a little bit

So . . . we got there kinda late. Still, we parked-up in the first row, far stage-right. I think we were the last Porsche in

First Porsche that caught my eye was a '71 914-6, parked across from us. Recent plates, pretty blue . . . doors almost fit

    '56 A Cab

I've seen this car before --- last coupla Phoenix Shows

Cabs aren't as sexy as Speedsters, so they don't get the same kinda love + attention . . . but what a pretty-pretty car. Totally '50s color --- auratium? Un-really clean and looking about as sporty it can with a canvas 'stack.' Not a big fan of Bursch-type exhausts --- kit-kar-kinda-lookin' krap . . . but lotsa nice details. Love the stone-guards on the fogs --- fit like little gloves . . . Marchal? Outside rear-view seems to be contending for space with the radio aerial . . . and losing

Original paint, gas-burners, OG CA plates w/Real Deal VP frames --- back AND front . . . very b!tchin'

Can't wait to see his S
