    Smile Porsche 911 1965 # 303330

    Hello,

I'm currently researching the provenance of a 1965 911, chassis number 303330. According to Mark Noack at the Porsche factory the car was sent to the Testing Department in December 1965.

Does anyone have a record of the cars tested by the factory?

I'm wondering why it was sent to the testing department: was it for racing purposes or was it for r&d?

Still waiting for more information from the factory archives (hopefully, but in the meantime, any lead would be most helpful.

    Many thanks,

I know of several cars that were delivered to the Testing Department. I would really like to know what/where the Testing Department was. Weissach? Unfortunately, I do not know of any records for cars tested there. What more can you tell us about this car? Keep me posted.

I once had a car that was a test mule of sorts. It was actually a factory executive car built for Jack Cook, president of Porsche/Audi in the US at the time. He told me personally that the car went to the Test Department before being released to him. It had an odd assortment of parts and pieces. The factory archives has it as a special build car, probably for an exec, but that is all.

The Weissach Center was in full use only after December 1971, when car design, prototypes, racing and Test/Versuch was located all there.
Before 1971 and since 1963, Weissach offered only a round skid pad for tire tests, a suspension test strip and a street/race circuit.
Most engine testing/Versuch was still done at the car shops at the Zuffenhausen factory.
Here a crash test of the 904. They also crashed 1965 Targa prototypes in a similar way, by releasing them 15m from above ground.

Thanks Karim, I do hope the car did not go to the testing department to get the pole treatment! Let's see if the factory archives can provide answers.....

Recently saw it ... here is an extract of the description ...

... VIN number 303330 ... dating from 1965 has a rich history. It was sent to the Porsche test department in December of the same year to satisfy the requirements of the "Research & Development". The car has been totally restored and prepared by Marc De Siebenthal, a well-known figure in the world of Historic Porsches. It was configured according to the FIA regulations for 1965 models, and is in conformity with the Peter Auto 2.0L Cup
    regulations.

I did a 67 RS deluxe it also had the same kardex type

My guess it was some kind a tax thing , like a discount by selling a "prototype"

    Marek,

There were three versuch cars in a narrow range of serial numbers; 303328, 303330 and 303331. One, 303328, was documented as used for the “Kalifornientest”, the emissions test required for California.

There is a picture of three cars under test in Morocco that have license plates S-WX 405, S-WX 406 and one that is not readable. These plates were likely issued in late 1965 or early 1966. Two of cars look to be light ivory as was 303331. One or more of these cars pictured may be the versuch cars listed above, but this is pure speculation on my part.

Was there any other information on the Kardex of 303331 that would indicated how this car was used?

    -Eric

I was thinking that the other light ivory car might have been S-WX 407 - the first factory car to run at LE MANS in 66 April test with drivers LINGE/VON HANSTEIN/KERGUEN which was supposed to have a 911S spec engine in it with 159.4PS and I understand might have been vin 303145 that was a WE/ Versuch car eventually sold to the USA in August 1967
