Thread: 1973 S Coupe value???

    1973 S Coupe value???

I am looking at a complete 1973 911 S coupe that my initial inspection reveals it to be an honest, solid car with approx. 100K miles. I also believe - but have not confirmed - it to be a numbers matching car. The engine and transaxle are out of the car and assume they each need a disassembly, inspection, and rebuild as required. This is my first posting and I would appreciate thoughts on how to value/price this car. Price guides seem good at assessing value to complete running cars, but this is clearly a project with excellent bones. Thank you for your help, and if I've left out critical information re helping to establish a value, I'm happy to respond.

    Welcome to the forum.

In your opinion is this car in need of a comprehensive restoration? A big factor in the price will be what it will take to have this car where you want it eventually.

What is the original color, options, documents and history? These also have significant influence.

Factor in 15-20k for engine and transmission rebuild.
10k for a paint job (depends on where you are)
    5k for interior restoration.
    If there is rust.......??

mac73s -- Hagerty insurance has a section on car values that can help. I also occasionally go to eBay and track a particular car of interest.

My advice (in lieu of posting additional details and photos) would be to research sales of similar cars on this site.
Two "barn find" 73S cars had nice threads recently.

Cars in obvious different condition, but you can see the range. In Northernthrux's case, he bought the car and has since undertaken a COMPLETE tear down and restoration.

I agree with all that, now add 25K for every thing else.

Thank you to everyone who has replied with their thoughts. I am confident there is no documentation beyond the clear title - but the serial number verifies it as a 73 S coupe so that's a start. Original (and still) silver metallic with sport seats and no sunroof. Not knowing what I don't know at this point - on a scale or restoration needs from 1 - 10 (with 10 being the most needy), I'd say the car is a solid '6' because at this point it appears to need mechanicals gone through, a repaint, some interior work, and assembly. It is NOT a rusted or wrecked car and has no accident history.

+1 Rob! Subtract $25K if your first name is Ed, Marco or Frank.
