hmmm.... wouldn't you be concerned by the seller's quote?:
"I did notice some rust repair and small amounts of bondo when I repainted the car, but nothing too bad, especially considering that these cars tended to be rust magnets... The floor boards appear to have been repaired by a previous owner, but seem to be very solid."

Yeah,
I read that but for $9,999... Asking for a 3.0CSi (Injected 3.0) that seems very cheap.... They are prone to rust just like early 911s often need a suspension pan and if the rust is not terminal for say $15K someone could be in a CSi...
My CSi drives much better then the standard 3.0CS... Similar to the difference between a 911T and a 911E
I too have been eyeing these 3.0's for some time. It is true that the BMW guys don't care much about whether an engine is original or not and as you mention they seem to prefer them. I have never driven one, but if the old cars drive, well like old cars, maybe that is why they like the swaps. Modern power, retro style. These cars do have their own set of rust issues and they are NOT insignificant so be sure to do your home work.

My car still has the original sound deadening on the shock towers... it has cracked, but it's still there! I like originality, and am OK without the benefit of a performance upgrade - just aren't many original cars left. These coupes drive great out on a highway. Comfortable, stable, quiet, and smooth.

BMWs drive Great... They are after all top of the line German Cars... They handle great and are very smooth and quiet... They are not as sporty as a 911 but they were never intended to be... Basically they are dead between a plush Mercedes and a Sporty Porsche.
That being said the 3.0CS can be transformed into a Monster like the guys at Alpina did in the 1970s AKA 3.0CSiL Batmobiles... The Batmobiles were world champions for a few years back in the mid 1970s.
Strato I would never over-tighten the tool kit... I don't want my pink spark plugs to fall out!

Great story and true!
The vintage BMWs are poised for some serious respect and appreciation...
Once the word gets out to the Russians and Chinese they all will be gone.
