bracket welded to the rear wheel house--what for?

who knows what function does this bracket have.

was it maybe used to position the inner wheel house on the jig when welding the body together?

not all swb do have it---does yours??

Are ou sure it is not for a brake line? Where the hard line converts to soft?

I have no idea what the intended use was...

    could it have been for:
hanging the dangling brake caliper when removing the rear rotor so as not to suspend it from the rigid brake line?

or hanging the driveshaft while it was disconnected at that end?
    (I did both).

It also held an end of a helper spring to close the sticking hot air valve - till the valve and it's pulling cable got rebuilt.

the 1379 and 700 have it. Also asked my early Porsche specialized metal workshop. Surely knows them but not clear about the purpose.
