X-Rated Movie? Cheesy story. Cheesy actors. Lousy editing. Worse continuity. In the end somebody gets screwed.
Pretty much sums it up.

Here's the rumor I heard: the panel that carries the VIN stamping was replaced due to prior damage. There was a lot of repair necessary to the chassis from both prior collision and corrosion. The dash stamping and the 'secret' production stamping are in place and correct on the car. So, if true, this raises the question: is there any one panel that cannot be replaced in a restoration? If the VIN-stamped panel is damaged, is the car just "parts?"

just parts?? why then is a bulkhead replacement panel available? certainly some accidents might require rebuilding/restructuring of that area.
again once all is done without supporting fotos and documents, its anyone's story.

'74 RoW Carrera, VIN 9114600263
(correct production number + tunnel reinforcements + excellent presentation + 1-of-1 color)
. . . minus . . .
(questionable VIN stamp + Ownership + wrong engine case w/highly questionable stamp + zero documentation/history)
. . . equals? . . .
$174k . . . so far
Question? . . .
What would a blank 7R case do to the equation?

Good recap. Seems like a lot of coin for a car that people have questions about. Does the high-bidder know something everyone else doesn't, or does he not know something?

No sale @$174.4k . . . 'reserve not met'
He probably has that invested into the restoration with the price of the car....
I have a Lime Green 75 2.7 Carrera that will be coming to market shortly. It has a blank replacement case. I think sometimes when the color is so good the engine number may be a little less important to some as these cars are not that easy to come by. We will see.

I know it's not this one. Remember this hit from a couple of years ago!!!
When you want the whole car painted you must be very clear regarding your expectations.
